Tman, Kato start over Yao? More effective than Yao? hahaha.

Talk about effectiveness per 48 minutes? Yao is number 8 in efficiency per 48 minutes in the entire NBA. Look at the top 7:
Shaq,KG,TD,Dirk,TMac,Kobe,Webber. Kidd is Number 9. How is Kato more effective?? Your argument looks weak to me.
    And a few more things:
1.Kato doesn't require double team. Yao does. That opens the game up for his teammates.
2.Kato doesn't change other team's offensive plan. Yao does.
3.Before Yao became a starter, his shooting average was 72%,8.9ppg,5.2ppg in 17.3 minutes. Kato is 53.3%,4.4ppg,6.4rpg in 19.2 minutes.

Where did you get the idea that Kato is more effective?

Even without additional strength, Yao would be on of the top players in the league if he has the stamina to play more minutes. Not to mention if he gets more touches. Low expectation from Kato and high expectation from Yao does wonders for Kato, samething might be said in Yao's case against Amare.

t-man, you just proved yao is having a better year than amare. based on YOUR OWN LOGIC, yao's numbers per 48 mins "show his impact was better": yao outscores amare by almost 3 points per 48 mins played (yao 22.6 to amare's 19.7), and their rebounding becomes nearly identical (yao 13.8 to amare's 14.2). yao blocks 3.38 shots per 48, amare 1.35. yao dishes 2.73 assists per 48, amare 1.38. shooting percentages remain the same, of course, with yao at 53% fg and 78% ft, and amare at 45% and 68%. this is your own rationale, and you proved decisively who's having the better year. as for cato, since his rebounding per 48 mins also dwarfs amare's, i suppose if kelvin played for phoenix, you'd also be arguing for amare riding the bench huh.

Ya, that will shut me up for good. My logic proved how close they are, not decisivley how much better Yao is. They are pretty close in points and rebounds. Yao is a center, he is supposed to block more shots and have a higher fg% since he plays in the post all the time. Advantage to yao in ft% though and an extra assist a game. This is your logic how he is decisivly better, ft% and 1 more assist. Shaq is one of the worst free throw shooters ever and you will never hear anyone outside of here say Yao is better than him.

And as to whether I would say Cato should start for the Suns. Yes, but not over Amare. They play 2 differrent positions. Should Yao start for the Lakers over Kobe? Think before you type.

You won't hear too many people in here say that either... at least not yet.

No one will argue that Shaq is NOT one of the most dominant centers in NBA history, but no one will argue that he IS one of the most skilled either.

    Yao rebound per 48 min:13.8
    Shaq rebound per 48 min:13.7
    Cato: 17.8

    Yao block per 48 min:3.38
    Shaq block per 48 min:2.88
    Cato:2.77

If Cato starts over Yao, he should start over Shaq too.

convenient how you ignored the difference of 3 points. and yao "is supposed to have a higher fg% since he plays in the post all the time"? where does stoudemire play, behind the 3-pt arc? bottom line, your stated logic was to compare players per 48 mins. when we do that, yao is in a virtual dead-heat in rebounding and ahead significantly in every other category--3 extra points will win more games for his team, 1.5 more assists (which equals another 3 extra pts) will win more games, 2 more blocks will win more games. four-tenths of a rebound will not. and if yao's points-per-game avg were close to shaq's, you would also take yao and his 78% ft shooting over shaq. read that last sentence carefully. as for cato and amare, one is 6'11" and the other is 6'10", cato could easily play the power forward position, as he did when rudy played both yao and cato together briefly. comparing cato and amare is comparing apples to apples. comparing yao to kobe is comparing apples to oranges. don't try to pull that faulty comparison, most people are smart enough to detect it. now, you think before you type. address every point i made, not just brush over the ones you can't defend. i repeat, "per 48 mins, yao is in a virtual dead-heat in rebounding and ahead significantly in every other category"--this is a "statistical fact" as you put it in an earlier post--so if this does not make him the decisively more impactful player for his team, then you are a hypocrite.

Yang2002, How long has Shaq been doing his thing? How many rings does Shaq have? How many Mvp's does Shaq have? How many Final's Mvp's does Shaq have? Is Shaq not working his way out of an injury? How long has Yao been doing his thing? How many rings does Yao have? How many Mvp's does Yao have? How many playoff games has Yao even been in, much less finals? Is Yao working his way out of any surgeries?

It is much easier to compare Cato-Yao than Shaq-Yao or Cato. Cato and Yao are nowhere near Shaq's level. Enough said.

TTboy, regardless of how close their point's per game were, I would never take Yao over Shaq. That is apple's and oranges. I prefer a dominate Center, not a conservative one. That is just my opinion though. As far as the 2.9 point's a game, please like that is a huge differrence over 48 minutes, but I think Amare can make that up but the time he is 22, as well as dwarf the 13.7 rebounds per 48 Yao as getting at 22. 1.5 assist, could be tough to make up in 2 years, too. While it is not about 2 years from now, but right now, you are basing your argument on how much better Yao is than Amare on 2.9 pts per 48, 1.5 asst. over 48, .5 fg%, negative 1/2 a rebound per 48 and 2 more blocks even though he is a center and Amare is a pf.While a pf does not stand behind the arc, the are not sitting back in the paint in a zone defense waiting to block shot's either. Most power forwards get their blocks on help defense, which does not create as many opportunities as the Center waiting in the paint for everyone. As far as fg%, I have not checked, but I am sure, just as blocks, Centers will pretty much dominate that category as well. Power forwards do not stand behind the arc for the most part on offense, but they do not get the ball in the paint the same percentage as a center either. It is also funny how Amare is 6'8" when comparing to Ming, but 6'10" when comparing to Cato. Is it not true that Cato is a center and Amare a power forward? They played Tim Duncan at small forward and Kevin Garnett at shooting guard during the allstar game for a minute, Does that mean that is their natural position, because they played there before?

Now you are putting Yao in the right category of centers, Bradley, Dampier, Cato, Foyle. Their numbers are all about the same. Thank you for proving my point. Him and Bradley are on the same level, but Yao does have the potential to pass him.

I guess Pat Ewing is in that category too based on stats over 48 min. Pat didn't win any rings and mvps. so him and Bradley are on the same level.

You are a genius. Cato,Dampier,Bradley,Foyle are better or on the same level compare to Yao.

    how about the following centers?

    Olowokandi:rebound 11.5,block 2.77
    Ilgauskas:rebound 12.5,block 3.11
    Brad Miller:rebound 12.7,block 1.07
    Divac:rebound 10.8,block 1.99

T-man, based on your LOGIC, please enlighten me: Why are Tim Duncan and Elton Brand among the league leaders in Block???

    1 Tim Duncan, SAS 50 39.9 149 155 2.98 3.59 0.96
    2 Ben Wallace, DET 46 39.0 135 116 2.93 3.61 1.16

    5 Shawn Bradley, DAL 49 23.8 125 157 2.55 5.14 0.80

Again, based on your same LOGIC, Why are a PF and two SF among the league leaders in FG%????????
NAME GP PPG FGM FGA FGM FGA FG% 2PM 2PA 2P% PPS* FG%
    1 S. O'Neal, LAL 37 26.0 9.9 17.6 365 650 .562 365 650 .562 1.48 .562

    3 Yao Ming, HOU 50 13.2 4.8 9.1 240 456 .526 240 456 .526 1.45 .526
    4 R. Jefferson, NJN 49 15.0 5.6 10.6 272 517 .526 267 500 .534 1.43 .531
    5 A. Kirilenko, UTH 49 12.3 3.9 7.5 190 366 .519 170 301 .565 1.64 .546
