Good job. As you said, the questions were boring... I'd fall asleep in the middle if I were Yao, but I guess Yao's got a bigger heart against SARS than I do.
Q: SARS and Shaq, which one is more intiminating? Yao Ming: To beat either one, you have to be mentally tough enough.
That doesn't mean much. Enron and world.com were Nasdaq trading stocks, and sohu nearly got kicked out of Nasdaq a couple of years ago for its stock prices being too low. Sina is beating sohu in every aspect despite starting business later. Why am I even talking about these things? Two great posters from the great Bball fan site clutchcity.net have been upset by sohu. That's quite enough to say it sucks.
Yao Ming has joined Chinese NT yesterday. These are the photos that he was at Beijing. He accepted the physical examination. He left the CBA office. Is he a superman? The day before yesterday he was at Shanghai and hosted the telethon. Yesterday he had arrived Beijing.
False news by Windandsea! Yao has not joined the Chinese NT yet. He's only doing a medical at Beijing. He will only join the Chinese NT a week later. The Chinese NT training base is not at Beijing. It's at an island I don't know how to name.
Way to go China! 60 million viewers and $300,000 dollars raised. If the NBA was using this thing for anything more than a free commercial they would gladly match that paltry figure, and they should for all of the exposure that it created.
We're Back, Uhm. You do realize that $300,000 will go a lot farther in China than in the US, right? If you adjust that figure to reflect a percentage of the average living wage over there, then I'm sure that the percentage isn't that far off of the American average for telethons. BTW out of curiosity, how many American telethons have you donated money too?
Please take the time to do the math as I am sure that you are wrong. I have not donated any money to telethons, that is true. It is also true that I haven't used any major illness or tragedy to gain free pub, which is what the NBA just did. Have you read one word about where this $300,000 will go" And, FYI, China has the largest middle class in the entire world. This is not a commentary on Yao, but you would have to be pretty naive to completely trust the NBA's motivation. I am just saying that it would have been a nice gesture of the NBA to have matched the paltry total in gratitude for theit commercial that they keep saying was viewed by 60 million.
The AP report of The total money raised was wrong. You'll found the number in any Chinese web site. The US dollar raised is 0.3M; the RMB raised is 5M (about 0.8M). So the total is 1.1M. Also the items for audit in web is still lasting. I think it's a great number. I remembered that telethon in China held before was big perfomance by a lot of movie/TV stars. This time was held by only 3 sports star, largely by Yao. Secondly, the telethon was prepare in less than one week. So, you can see Yao realy have a great popularity. What I hated was that CBA enrolled Yao the day after the telethon. Why they did this? Did they worry Yao will heold another telethon or the chance of getting SARS?
I don't know about the Chinese people. But $300,000 is pocket change for those NBA superstars. (OK, a bit exaggerated, but you know what I mean.) Other than Francis' $10,000, is there any news about other players' contributions?
He has arrived the NT training base, Qinghuang island. http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2003-05-13/0102439698.shtml
AI donated $10,000. Les (the owner of Rockets) donated $22,000. http://sports.tom.com/Archive/1019/1042/2003/5/12-79339.html One large part of this activity is the auction. The auction will be ended at end of May. It will collect a lot of money.
his gf practices at kunming city in southwest of china with national team. yao could do nothing coz sars, media and could not be with his gf. poor yao, he have nothing to do including a rest . qinghuangdao is an quiet and safe place at least.
