He looked disinterested and maybe even pissed....like "how the hell did i end up having to fly all the way up to NY just to talk to these 2 invalids "
they asked him a bunch of stupid questions like did u play college ball in china, is shaq hard to guard, where did u learn english, was it hard to move from shanghai to houston, are u a hero in china, how tall are your parents, can i sit in your lap....
well when Yao first sat down that that little phoney idiot regis was saying they have to talk real sl-ooowly while making idiotic hand symbol to talk slowly.... I never wanted to punch a dude harder than I wanted to punch that dude at that moment. That pissed me off. Yao was cool and calm as usual. But he really let a great opportunity slip by when he denied that little hottie her wish to sit on his lap. maybe he wasnt that interested in letting that fine hunmdinger sit on his lap because he thought he might get a woody and have to stand up soon afterwards.
That seems to be the look he has on his face most of the time when doing those kind of events. Shaq is on the show tomorrow. I bet he lets Kelly sit in his lap.
He didn't seem pissed so much as overwhelmed. Those shows are not built for guys like Yao who take their time and don't have one-liner comebacks.
at first i thought maybe he was just scared his girlfriend would yell at him if he let this chick sit in his lap....but from his reaction i think maybe it's that he's just tired of ppl treating him like he's a novelty circus performer....he prob just wants to live his life like a normal guy
Spot on. I groaned when Regis made that suggestion. It's like asking a midget if you can pick him up... not too polite.
So what sort of questions would you guys ask Yao? Because these questions are getting silly. Yao is just going to keep giving what they ask for. If they ask mundane questions he'll give them mundane answers. I would ask him if he likes the rain? Or if he likes to sit by the fire and play the chinese flute? Or does he likes to chop wood? how does he feel about rowboating? Or does he like to dance? are silent moments important to him? anything besides, 'uh you're tall, wow-yao! yao-wow! or uh duh whats it like to play basketball in the NBA? are what are some of the questions not to ask Yao.. ever again? here's a few: How tall are you? How did you learn english? do you like american food?
You know, I think some of you guys are a little bit too sensitive. Not that this was a great piece of work or anything, but this is probably the best interview of this type that I've seen Yao involved with. They didn't really make any references to how tall he was or how big his hands or feet were. They asked him stuff about basketball, what the transition to America was like, what he did in the summer, etc. What do you think they should ask Yao? I don't think Regis was trying to be mean or insensitive when he talked about how they needed to speak clearly to Yao. I mean, after all, sometimes the guy doesn't get exactly what the people are saying in English based on some of his replies to questions he's been asked on television. I thought it was pretty funny when the chick ased Yao whether Shanghai or Houston had better Mexican food. This was tons better than the interview on the Today show where they gawked at the size of his hands and asked him where he had to shop for his clothes. Plus at the end Yao got to show off a little bit of his humor when he asked "How much weight do you have?"
