I disagree with u big time. You can't show me 1 guy that's a great ft shooter that wasn't a good mid range shooter. Shooters don't really practice free throws. That's why shaq has never been a good free throw shooter because his depth perception doesn't allow him to be. If u look at Hakeem and Ewings mid range progress, you will see ft progress. That's a great and easy shot for Yao. Its uncontested and a easy shot. He won't have the same time as he would shooting the ft, but in his mind, he just needs to just shoot. No hesitation, no looking around. When he receives it and shoots, he's pretty good at it. Just like when he's aggressive in the post, he's a totally different player than when he's thinking, looking, and posturing.
I like Yao to shoot the mid-range jumper after pick and roll. One reason that he is shooting at a higher percentage than before is probably because he now sets picks for AB0, whose defender is usually the shortest on the opposing team and won't affect Yao's shots at all, unlike before when Yao had to shoot over TMac's defender.
Yao is the guy, and the only guy who can shoot FT at 90% while does not have a mid range game. I don't understand it either. I don't understand why Yao can not hit those face up, open jumpers. it just did not show up in the games. IF Yao can hit those jumpers, he is a superstar right away. Adelman would have been the happiest coach in the world.
I really think this was a green light issue under JVG. His confidence in that shot didn't grow. Yao and Rick need to decide before the game for him to take that shot. Yao right now only shoots it if he has to. If he's looking for that shot then uh ohh...Yao is such a pure shooter, it would be lethal
I know that, I +mentioned that in the last series. Too many bodies on Yao in the post and trying to fight for position will tire him out , so shoot it from outside. And AB said he can shoot it , I mentioned an edit.

The real question is, does he have a more consistent shot than Scola? If not, that shouldn't be a regular staple play, other than occasional mix-up. He can create that shot for Scola anyway, plus, he can try to go for offensive rebound by staying down low.
Scola and Landry are as good an offensive rebounder as Yao. And I am sure Yao is as good a midrange shooter as Scola and Landry. We all knew Yao was a good shooter ever since his rookie days. The only reason why he has been locked in the low post was because he is so damn efficient there. But as I mentioned in another post, efficiency has to factor in the success rate of getting him the ball in the low post. If it was easy getting him the ball down low, of course there was no reason for him to shoot jump shots. But that's not the case in reality.
Redeo, yao just needs to shoot it. The game flow and the defender will dictate when he shoots it. He needs to take it with confidence and let it fly.
Yao does not prefer playing in the high post. However, I would still like for him to work on that mid-range game. It was scouted that he had NBA 3 range what before he came into the league. Honestly, he would be the best scoring center in the league if he was capable of playing the pick n pop better. Al Jefferson is currently the better scorer center, but Yao is the best center in the league overall and offensively.
This was what we used to do all the time back in the Francis era. Yao got most of his points from mid range set shots and dunks from guard penetration. It's nice to incorporate it in the game when he can't seem to avoid turnovers, he's getting fronted, or he's just getting tired.
I get the height of the player vs. height of the rim when it applies to a dunk but what the hell does it have to do with a jump shot.
I think Yao needs to improve and work on 15-20ft jumper during the summer.. He will be deadly if he can get that mid range jumper to go in. If he can get it down then nobody will be able to stop him, if they front him then the pick and roll will come in and he will hit it.. Im sure he practiced day in and day out on his free throws to become 85% from the line...
