The real 20/10 will come next game actually. Right now only 9.9 rbs. But we all know it's coming. I am glad Yao is finding his way. And JVG did learn something. We will just wait for Tmac to wake up.
Needs 15 rebounds to be at 10 rpg, he is 5 short of that right now. He also only needs 5 points to still average 20 ppg. Sorry, I always try to figure this stuff out. DD
Yep, I did, he has 355 rebounds on the year, counting today's game, in 36 games. Check the stats here at Clutch fans
No, you missed my point, he only needs 5 points in the next game and he still will be averaging 20 ppg. He has 15 points in the bank so to speak. DD
Oh thats what you meant, dude if he really only drops single digits next game, I'm petitioning Clutch to put a ban on you until the offseason
i know this is rather pessimistic, but it seems like every season yao has like 1 or 2 good weeks where hes the player of the week because he averages like 26 and 12 or something, but then he always goes back to having sporadic good games and lots of foul trouble. ill believe he is over that hump when this streak of good games lasts longer than a week or 2.
Fair enough, but I am seeing a lot different Yao, especially on defense, he is moving his body out of the way to avoid the stupid little blocking fouls....and he is taking an angle to block the shots, avoiding contact and using his full height. He may still have the occasional foul prone game, but right now, I have to feel he has found his place in the NBA, and the refs are giving him the respect he has earned. DD
If you look at the graphs they tell a completely different story. Not sure how buried this graph is in this entire thread but take a peek at it. Notice how the ppg (RED) trend last season that Yao had some wide peaks and valleys compared to this season where it's very much more level. The peaks and valleys represent the streaks you saw last season. This season however we don't have the wide peaks and valleys but a much more consistent performance represented by the much more stable red line. Can he sustain the 26pts/15rbs like pace? I don't know but he's for certain playing much more consistently over 34 games than he ever did last season.
I think this is only the 2nd time he got player of the week. And he has been playing well the whole February except that Suns game right before the AS weekend.
The sleeping giant has woke up,but the sleeping beauty is still sleeping! Not good my friend ! not good.
I agree with you D2, I believe Yao has really turned the corner. As mentioned by Zoork, in the past Yao's had strings of great games, teasing us, then falling back down to earth in a crash of 7pt, 2 reb outings. However, after watching him these last several games, I would say this is a different Yao Ming - he seems a little quicker, a lot more feisty and definitely more aggressive. He'll still crash down to earth, but I am thinking his off-games will be more 15-17pts on 40% shooting and still getting about 8 rebounds. All this is a result of experience and aggressiveness. I think the time Yao spent injured really opened his eyes. Yao may have realised what a crucial piece of the team he is and every loss hurts that much more. He is still going to have his stamina issues, but the more effort he puts in being aggressive game-after-game-after-game should improve on that. Stuart
He has never averaged 26+ ppg, 16+ rpg during a 4 game streak before in his career. It's his total domination of the opponents that got the Rockets fans excited, even at the time when Mac is slumping. Next in line for Yao haters are: 1) he cannot do this on a daily basis; 2) he has never won a ring; 3) he is probably on a secret Chinese steroid; 4) he is neither black nor white so he is soft; 5) he is 7'6" but still cannot average 30/20 -- he is forever overrated.
There aren't many haters left. 95% of the GARM supports Yao, the other 5% would probably hate Yao if he was 8 feet tall and had a 40" vertical.
