True, we will see all the "Yao sucks, trade him" threads surface again right after his next subpar game.
Thanks Tango. Great work! I wasn't sure if you took all of last years games or not. I saw a new Yao at the beginning of the season. His footwork and positioning looked MUCH better. Then he went out with injury. Now his improved play is clearly evident because he can play with so much more energy with a new big toe. I'm really excited! Go Rockets.
someone posted the site a while back, but what is the site that has the 4 game average of players points, rebs, ast, etc?
Another impressive performance today 29pts - 11rbs - 2blk Yao is becoming a man right before our eyes. Over the last 12 games in the month of February we are 10 wins and 2 losses with Yao's stats as follows: pts rbs blks ast W / L Bucks 21 13 1 3 W Sonics 24 14 2 3 W Knicks 15 3 4 1 W Sixers 27 12 1 0 W Lakers 14 13 2 0 L Jazz 27 8 2 0 W Knicks 24 8 4 0 W Clippers 17 12 1 3 W Suns 6 0 0 1 L Clippers 29 15 2 1 W Warriors 22 21 2 0 W Magic 29 11 2 1 W Avg 21 11 2 1 Not to shabby in my book. We will see how he responds in the Phoenix game tomorrow night. They did a good job of taking him out of the game last time, lets hope we can get him more involved in the one tomorrow night.
"Generously" listed at 20.0 ppg for the 05/06 season, Yao's number was "only" 19.97 ppg after the Golden State game. With the 29-point performance against Orlando today, Yao has now officially exceeded the 20.0 ppg threshold at 20.23 ppg.
Ming's may be "in the zone," but it looks like more. He is playing smarter, better, and he looks quicker. Since his return, he has been relatively consistent, something he has never been. I am very impressed with his play right now. With a better group of role players, this team would be in the upper levels of the league. Need a shooter and a "beast" inside, who can score.
Awesome. Looks like it's time for us to start generously bragging about him averaging TWENTY-ONE per game now.
Probably not the same one but at NBA.com under statistics if you navigate to a specific player and choose "season splits" there's a listing for the last 5 games and the last 10 games. e.g. season splits for TMAC & Yao: http://www.nba.com/playerfile/tracy_mcgrady/season_splits.html http://www.nba.com/playerfile/yao_ming/season_splits.html Another good site is www.82games.com for stats.
One thing I thought was interesting during the broadcast of the Magic game was that Bill Worrell mentioned that Tom Thibedeaux works with Yao for 45 minutes before each game on his post moves at full game speed. If that's true, Tom must be doing a pretty good job 'cause we're certainly seeing some results.
That makes me wonder what the hell Patrick Ewing is doing on the Rockets coaching staff. Wasn't he brought in to work with Yao?
Hey, maybe he works with Yao every day for all I know. Worrell just mentioned that Thibideaux works with him before the games. I'm not sure how Patrick Ewing become such a pariah around here. The guy's only an assistant coach for God's sake. I wonder if the Warriors fans complain constantly about what Mario Ellie is doing to improve their team. I have no idea what Ewing's role is in coaching the team but I suspect Van Gundy likes having him around because he was noted throughout his career for having a very impressive work ethic. Nobody thought he'd be worth a damn on offense when he came into the league but he worked himself into a Hall of Famer. Word is he still stays late at the Toyota Center riding stationary bikes and crap after the players have gone home. I figure if you have a chance to keep a guy like that hanging around your young players, you take it. He doesn't count against the cap, you know.
I'm more interested in the rebound mark than scoring..we all knew how great of a scorer yao was but he was having trouble rebounding seems like its fixed now
Very well put. I never understood all the Ewing bashing. Is it cause Dream destroyed him in 94? Is it cause he has larger than normal nostrils? Because he enjoys heterosexual male entertainment?
It's because many fans have felt that Yao can be a special kind of player - with his work ethic, basketball IQ, dedication, skill level - who needs a special kind of coach/mentor to maybe harness a little extra out of Yao so he can be the undisputed big man in this league. It's obvious (at least to my uneducated self) that Ewing may not be the right coach for this task- which I certainly do not blame him for. But it sure seems like the only way for Ewing to paid EXTRA attention to Yao would be for Yao to put on a ladies wig, wear a ladies face mask, and for Yao to get stripper t***. It doesn't hurt Ewing's pride to see Yao not live up to his full potential.
Kareem said some years back that he'd like to work with Yao. If the Rockets had an opportunity to get someone like Kareem on the coaching staff (someone who's skill set better matches Yao's than Ewing's and who was obviously the greater player), then they should jump on it. And if they're not taking up his offer because Ewing is still hanging around, then
Kareem's cool and all, but I see no reason to kick Ewing in the balls just for not being Kareem. I'm not necessarily in favor of having Yao hang around FEWER Hall of Famers, personally.
