    Regarding the term "rookie..."
Did you mean "nob" or "knob?"

I think he meant "noob". That term is commonly used by people on online game sites. It means a newbie who is not skillful and experienced in that game.

That term used in the interview is exactly what Chinese describe newbies in games. Yao would know what I meant ;)

really? Yao will be bashed if he wasn't come back to China to play for China national team. It's not ironic in china. at this point China doesn't change at all.

Being bashed for not playing for your national team does not equate to "no change in China."

Our players get bashed if they don't play on the USA TEAM.

That's just the way it is everywhere. Especially if you're talking about your countries best players.

I did see any NBA player who refuse to play for US national team get bashed. they still play at NBA. in china if a player get bashed he/she cannot play at china team. Wang is a good example."no change in China" means the way that they punish the people doesn't change.

I don't think it's true. I voted for Yao & Francise several times just as a lot of CC.net fans out there doing the same thing. I would say lot of Internet vote comes in from US fans.

I remember back in the days when Shaq was ahead of Yao in voting, someone posted a message. Amazingly next few hours, Yao's vote just jump out ahead, and eventually insurmountable for Shaq's votes to catch up.

Yao will win tons of Internet polls.

    :D

Well, that's their law. Then follow it. If your point is that China's laws are not the same as USA. Well duh!

As time goes on, that will backfire.

As I said earlier, our own interests area ALWAYS more important. Remember, Dirk paid how much outta his own pocket to play for Germany.

    Are you kidding me?

The only punishment that has been delivered to Wang so far is not letting him selectively choose which international tournaments he wants to play in. He wants to play in the World Basketball Championships (because it can be used to highlight his skill level), but he doesn't want to play in the Asian Games because it does nothing for him.

Sorry bub. United States, People's Republic of China, or Republic of the friggin' Congo... it's perfectly justfiable to keep athletes off national teams (or any team for that matter) when they put themselves ahead of the team. If Garnett had announced he'd only play in the Gold medal game of the Olympics but wanted to skip all the qualifications and early round games... I'd rightly expect USA Basketball to give him the boot, as well.

And you're being simply ridiculous when you claim the level of "punishment" in China for "crimes" such as this hasn't changed over the past decade. Simply, totally, ridiculous.

where do you get this idea the "punishment only for crimes. this is totaly ridiculous assumption. there are namy diffrent "punishiment" for good pelpe, more than for crimes.did you ever read the report or comment for wang in chinese intenet? that is really painful. Year ago If he came back, he may not be allowed to play in US again.for now Wang still is afraid of come back home.
If Garnett had announced he'd only play in the Gold medal game of the Olympics but wanted to skip all the qualifications and early round games. could you tell me he has any trouble to live in US or play in NBA or afraid of come back home?
there are many changes in China for those years. China get better and better than before but some ridiculus thing still happen.

    I agree...

Newgirl has brought great value to the bbs and i think everyone is misunderstanding her point. at least give her the benefit of the doubt before you blast comments..

Afterall, i have seen many posts that reflect the same comment as hers for other Yao stories..
