These guys should bug Vernon whenever he eats at Lubys!

for the newbies who don't know:

And last month Maxwell was arrested in a Luby's parking lot for allegedly waving an unregistered .38-caliber handgun during an argument.

Sorry to bring this up but this is a pet peeve of mine and keeps coming up. Yao Ming's family name is "Yao." In China, Japan and Korea the family names comes first. Many Asians when they come to the US have switched the names around to follow Western convention but Yao hasn't.

As a rule of thumb most Asians who go by a Western given name like Jackie Chan or Ken Watanabe then they are following Western convention with the family name last but for those who stick to Asian names generally stick to the Asian convention like Zhang Zhiyi or Kim Jong Il with the family name first.

The term oriental is offensive when applied to people. Oriental is a term used to described objects from Asia.

    here ya go heypartner.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriental
    - But in certain historical contexts, or when its exotic connotations are integral to the topic, Oriental remains a useful term.
    - Major objections to the use of the word "Oriental" are chiefly limited to certain elements in North America. Its use is not controversial in Europe, where the word is neutral and in widespread usage as evidenced by its usage on the online British Monarchy Media Centre.[58] In France the terms "l'Occident" and "l'Orient" are used without any negative associations in academic contexts. In Europe the term is often used to describe such things as the East's cuisine and goods, ancient culture, and religions, at times to denote an exotic quality with upmarket or mildly positive connotations.

IOW, you can call your gf's panties asian panties if you want to, although why should you care whether they are asian or not is beyond me. cute panties are enough for me. actually, you can even call them oriental panties if you want, but then you'll just be uncool and out of the loop.

In the past, in England we called people from the Orient 'Orientals'. By this we distinguished that they are not Europeans or Africans, but are of the oriental race.
Mostly to-day, now that all peoples are, used to Asian Countries ther are able to distinguish, by calling them by refering to their country eg: Chinese or Japanese etc. But as India is now referred to as part of Asia and most of their population is Caucasian it isn’t possible to referee to Asians and mean of the oriental race.

I can't say about French or other non-English culture but I've noticed in English literature "oriental" is occasionally derogatory. I've seen it used in regard to despotic regimes or decadence such as oriental despotism where as I've never seen the term occidental despotism.

As far as using the term to refer to people it is better used for a train or rugs rather than people. Its borderline offensive but mostly dated. Its similar to the using the term "negro" to describe African Americans.

You know in Texas if you just walk onto someones property and they feel you pose a threat to them, especially after following them home, gives them a good reason to shoot you.

Why not next time follow t-mac home and see what he does. I can guarantee he wont be as nice as Yao was to you.

Allow me to 'splain something to you about oriental girls. All girls...yes! ALL girls like to be put on a pedestal, like a work of art....whether they admit to it or not.

as foo82 said, they are indeed an object from Asia. The most precious object!

I'm not say you should call them a precious Oriental object; I'm just saying you should treat them that way. Just like you would treat a Texas girl.

I call bull on that one. The more you treat girls like a queen, the more they'll treat you like you are a rug to walk over (how's that for 'Oriental'). Of course, that's human nature...if you give away your power over to anyone then they will eventually take advantage of this situation.

But anyways, tell us more about your 'Oriental' girl in her 'Oriental' panties. Any pics? Nah, I'm just kidding.

nappdog is smarter than me. Maybe not quite as smart as Tragic...but smarter than me.
