I always thought Jason Williams was overrated. Im glad rudy didn't listen to the media and draft Williams with the first pick so he could have an "Outstanding" backcourt. I thought rudy should have drafted Butler but now after seeing Ming play I think he made the correct choice.
http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Yao_Named_NBAs_Western_Confer-62820-34.html HOUSTON (Jan. 2, 2003) - The NBA today named Houston Rockets center Yao Ming the Western Conference “got milk” Rookie of the Month for December, as he led all rookies with averages of 17.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.73 blocked shots in 15 games last month. Among NBA rookies in December, Yao ranked third with a field goal percentage .524 and second with a free throw percentage of .867. Among all NBA players in December, Yao ranked eighth in rebounds per game and seventh in blocked shots per game. The 7-foot-6, 296-pound center compiled eight double-doubles in 15 December contests. The first overall pick in the 2002 NBA Draft scored 27 points with a career-high, Rockets individual season-high and NBA rookie season-high 18 rebounds on Dec. 1 vs. San Antonio. He added 29 points with 10 rebounds and a career-high and NBA rookie season-high-tying six blocks vs. Indiana on Dec. 18. Among NBA rookies this season, Yao ranks second with 13.2 points per game, second with 7.6 rebounds per game, first with 2.00 blocks per game, first with a field goal percentage of .571, and third with a free throw percentage of .793. He leads the Rockets in field goal percentage, rebounds and blocked shots. This marks the 13th time in franchise history for a Rockets player to earn NBA Rookie of the Month honors. Ralph Sampson received the award six times during the 1983-84 season, while both Hakeem Olajuwon and Steve Francis claimed the award three times during the 1984-85 season and the 1999-2000 season, respectively. Yao needs more months like this to get ROY.
Here is Jay Williams' stat tonight: PLAYER POS MIN FGM-A 3GM-A FTM-A OFF DEF TOT AST PF ST TO BS PTS JAY WILLIAMS G 31 1-9 0-2 1-4 0 0 0 2 4 0 0 0 3
I still remember how Jay Williams was touted "The Most NBA-ready Rookie" among the class of `02... even I was lured into this hype by voting for Jay Williams for ROY honours as I believed Yao will take at most one year to adjust... now it's "Jay Who?" as Yao, Wagner, Gooden and especially Stoudamire take over the scenes...
If i am not mistaken, the Rookie of the Month honors were split between conferences, in the last couple of years. If that is the case, how did Olajuwon not win Rookie of the Year when he had 3 Rookie of the Months. He could have at least tied Jordan for Rookie of the year.
Yeah many people including myself though Jay Dub would be the most successful rookie stat wise this year. I mean Jay was said to go number one if he came out last year and even the year before that, he may of been one of the most hyped college PGs in history. But I never ever pictured him on the rockets, I did picture D. Gooden with Griffin up front before we won the 1st draft pick. And from there all I could think was Ming! But Amare is sure doing better than I though, I mean I seen him play in the summer league and I knew he was athletic but he was extremely raw but he's having a great year so far, I guess size and hops are enough these days to be sucessful.
