The reason I say this is because most of the street people on this board only think like street Americans and judge everyone by their American street standards.
All he said was if he get hurt this season he will probably walk away. There are people putting words in his mouth and putting a twist on this whole story.
Right. *IF* he can't play anymore, he would retire. Where's the story in THAT?!? Would we rather have him sit on the bench and collect a paycheck like most NBA guys would do these days?
This article way miss quoted what Yao said... I'm sure it has been posted before, but here is the original China Daily interview. http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/sports/2010-07/26/content_11049012.htm He has already stated he will not opt out of the final year of his contract with Rockets and will return to the team for the 2010-11 season. He also said his recovery was going very well and he "will be back in October" for the NBA's preseason. To give Yao more time to rest, the Rockets signed 7-foot veteran center Brad Miller. "I think we have a very good lineup for new season. Now we have the strength to make it to the second round of the playoffs. But I hope it's not the end and we can still move forward." Asked about his future, Yao said any decision would depend on his injured foot. "If the foot injury does not heal next season, I might choose to call it quits."
unfortunately, the newspaper didn't cap all letters of "If" and didn't put multiple "IF". alot ppl tend to miss it.
It's clear that Yao's best days as a player are behind him. If he wants to prelong his career he has to accept a diminished role. The Rockets should understand that. It's a good thing that this is the last year that Yao's under contract and both parties can make a decision on what to do next after seeing how Yao plays this season. I don't doubt that Yao will retire if he gets hurt again -- one can only take so many injuries. Perhaps it is true that Yao is just too big to play basketball.
[ESPN] Yao thinking about "calling it quits" after next season if foot doesn't heal. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5413279 Didn't see it posted. Such a shame if it ends up happening. Such a promising career to be derailed by injuries.
He's the leader and the most important player on the Rockets. His health is integral to the Rockets' success. tm
Yeh I was thinking that it might be in the one about returning to elite status but I figured this deserved its own thread.
I consider it honerable if he does not want to limp around for a number of years. However, I hate that he is even thinking like that, might mean he is still in pain

I question if that is Yao's exact words or was it being twisted. A lot of things Yao said are not complete sentences...so editors have to fill it in and as a result....assume and twisted his wordings. And I question how sincere is his tought and to what degree. Is his thought and feelings being twisted and modified as a result of misunderstanding of Yao's english?
