One thing to consider is that Big Z said his foot felt strange and uncomfortable for a long time, and then all of the sudden, in one day, the pain went away. It may take a while for a reshaped foot to feel completely comfortable. I guess we shall see, eh? DD
I see what you're saying but I don't think most people expected T-Mac to completely break down the way he did. And Yao was pretty much injury free his first few years in the NBA.
The way I read it, it seems more like he's shutting up shop on his representative basketball career, than making a hard statement on his NBA career.
I would suggest that these more recent comments are in contrast to this, for instance: http://twitter.com/yaoming @ChrisBosh, Hey Chris, hopefully you'll play with us (Rockets) next season. I'll be healthy and I'd really look forward to playing together It's not news to me...I agree. I said that earlier. I do think it's news to the head-in-the-sand brigade. If a doctor says it...or if an analyst speculates, it's not news. Nevertheless, him coming to terms with all this is news, I suppose. His feelings on his health are going to be interesting to people.
Any potential all star or close to it centers we can go after mid season, or if/when Yao does breakdown?
Yao has done more charity and still shot lots of commercials within China so I don't think he can complain Dude is a goof ball
It sounds more like he'll rest more by taking international events off the list. Part of me says the heavy minutes he puts in every game in the NBA season are what causes his injuries... maybe so. But the majority of me says that his year-long action is what amplifies the damage done to his foot. So if he wants to stay healthy he'll have to play reduced minutes (maybe even in the 20-30 minute range) and cut off international basketball completely.
This is old news (July 23rd). It doesn't mean anything. I think this is the original source. 主持人:你现在已经而立之年,你未来会继续选择在火箭队退役吗? 姚明:我现在想的是把自己接下来的赛季打好,一旦最坏的情况出现,我下个赛季就退役了。 Host: You are now thirty-year old, will you continue playing for the Rockets until retirement? Yao: Now, what I think is to play well in the next season. Once the worst happens, I will retire next season.
I'm pretty sure we could send expirings and 2nd round picks and get Okafor and his contract from the Hornets. I'm pretty sure they would be ecstatic with that, much less us trading our young players.
absolutely...but i didn't get the sense that was the way it was received here, for instance. and at face value, the average joe isn't looking that deeply into it...the last we had to go on was Yao saying, "i'll be healthy." just a few weeks later he's talking about this season merely being a test for him ....and that if he's ever going to get back to the kind of production we might expect from him, we better be willing to wait a year. that's just a different tone. i'm not calling the man a liar. something may have changed for him, in fact.
Is it just me or Yao was just addressing specifically to the Chinese Basketball Association? He doesn't want to play for the national team anymore and is trying to soften the blow before it's official. Anyway, I'm not concerned with this news at all.
I wonder what the organization will do in terms of a contract for 2011-12 season if Yao plays the whole season but is sub par. Would the organization keep him knowing that they can't build around him anymore? Damn honest guy considering he's saying that during a contract renewal season. I sure hope he gets better.
