He broke his foot twice before the age of 18. The Rockets always knew the risks. He is Ralph Sampson

morey has started the rebuilding process already (thinking yao won't contribute much). that was why he went after bosh, and that is why he's building such a deep and balanced team.

he'll continue to find that star, and yao will be an afterthought.

Yao is not confident about his foot. the last few articles i`ve read, he`s had doubts. I feel like since we`ve drafted him, it`s been in and out, especially the past few seasons. If he`s not confident about his foot, and saying he`s going to quit, why should I give a crap? We`ve invested a lot in his this guy, and he wants to quit?

I really dont like our players sometimes. Yao just killed any freaking trade value he once had. Now we are stuck with this guy and have to hope it works out. These guys like Tracy and Yao always seem to sabotage the Rockets for whatever reason. They just cant keep their feelings private. I hope Yao does recover, because this is who we are riding with now from now until he retires with this last stuff. I am happy he at least doesnt want a long term contract if he gets injured again. He does the right thing by bowing out. That leaves us with nothing for sure now though. Unless he miraculously does make it through this season. :(

Yao isn't trying to hurt the Rockets by saying this. He's trying to help us. He just missed a full 82 game season and has been hurt the last 3 years. If he gets hurt again he needs to retire. A hurt player doesn't help a team. It just holds us back from seeing how good we can be. He's trying this intense surgery to fix his foot for good and maybe it will somehow work. But all he is saying is that if he gets hurt again, he isn't going to make us pay him a contract he knows he doesn't deserve

if you had broken your foot 28 times by the age of 29. The last 3 years you have missed a full 82 games. Broke your foot in the game 1 of the 2nd round of the playoffs. And the year before he got hurt in the midst of a 22 game win streak. He knows, its either stay healthy or if he can't he will need to retire

Yao just just destroyed any trade value he had by giving this to the media, now management will have give him the cameo role

its not fair for the fans, his teammates, coaches and even him. One more serious injury and he will retire, as he needs to

We would never trade Yao so it didn't matter. Yao has always been about the marketing, not the nba value. While he has looked promising the dude always gets hurt. If he wasn't Yao Ming we would have shipped his ass years ago with all these injuries

I thought the same thing about Hakeem. The Rockets would never trade him or let him sign with another team. Then, the Rockets blew him off, and he went to Toronto.

He's already doing basketball activities on the court. If there were an issue with his foot to the point where it's not right, I'm sure the Rockets won't be letting him get to that point.

He didn't get on the court at all last offseason. His foot never got to the point where it let him.

They ask him about the Olympics and it turns into this...

do you know what kind of surgery he had? his left foot was reshaped. it's not like you reshap your toe nails. if doctor turned your one foot backwards and told you you can run fast with it, how much confidence would you have?

Yao's best contribution to the team will be: staying injured.
He will save Les millions and the team wont be disrupted.

Well, NOW maybe we don't have to endure anymore " why don't more big name free-agents want to come here?" threads. THIS IS WHY!

    THE FEAR OF YAO'S FOOT!!!!

I dont think Yao said anything out of the ordinary. He simply said if he cant get back to a certain level and stay healthy, he will retire. I think most athletes think about retirement when their body starts betraying them. Yao is so unique in terms of his body that i only expected 7-10 yrs out of him. Now, i still think he can be a 14 ppg 7 rebs guy for 4 more years if he chooses too. I mean, u could run pick and pops with him and he could knock down that shot all day long if he doesnt hesitate. His biggest impact to me is defensively and i've said that over and over again even before the injury. Now maybe there are some that have this pie in the sky dream of 2005 yao or even his last full season, but i dont. I think he is a quality player and quality person, but his days of being a high offensive option is gone.

Contrary to to belief, i want to see him return,be healthy and play a role on this team. I have maintained over the years that he isa good player who can help a team win games. My biggest knock was he's not consistent enough both in physically and mentally to revolve a franchise around. If you want to have him as an anchor defensively and a 3rd/4th option offensively, i think right now, that would be great for himand the rockets.
