Difference between Yao and Big Z is that when Big Z got the surgery, he was younger and weight a lot less and his legs doesnt take the beating like Yao's. Yao is surprisingly much weaker, his weight is unbearable to his legs and he has broken his foot a handful of times already.

I rather not have him rush back but sit this year out and just rest up. Hopefully after this season, he can come back and just fit in with this new team. He is no longer our main guy but our role player.

Agreed with the age and weight. Zydrunas was 4 years younger at 25. He is 50 lbs lighter, 260 lbs, than Yao, 310 lbs.

However, Yao is not different because he broke his foot handful of times. Zydrunas had broke his foot multiple times from 1995-2000. The reconstruction surgery was his 5th surgery in 6 years.

and nobody puts in more hard work than yao..the guy is relentless when it comes to rehabbing/practicing...that has alot to do with how fast a player can return also..that counts...

As long as He feels he can and if the doctors all agree then good for him and the team.

yao's career is done because the center position is the most dirtiest position in the league. when he comes back everyone is gonna step on that foot and ppl will kick him in the shin to test him

human feet aren't meant to carry 310lbs and be stressed to the limits.

It will give up eventually. sorry but Yao will hurt again if he plays.

That's why they made the additional surgery so that it shouldn't happen again. It worked out for Big Z.

How about Shaq? Injuries happen and players just have to take all necessary precautions to avoid being hurt. Yao will play again and lets just wish him all the best.

Yeah, that's true. Shaq would come into the season higher than his listed weight and play his way into shape.

Shaq in playoff condition is definitely slimmer than the beginning of the season.

He had to be pushing at least 350-360lbs at the start of the NBA seasons.

Shaq is built differently and he is 5" shorter......

Personally, I hope Yao slims up, he bulked up too much IMO...

I found this on google. Shaq says he played at about 360 pounds, back in LA. That's 50lbs heavier than Yao.

Honestly, I'm with Yao would stop thinking about when he's coming back. And just take it easy.

Personally, I'm hoping he'll miss the entire next season and then half of the 2010-2011 season. Lose some weight, and become more of a perimeter player ala Rik Smits. He's at a point where he really needs to think about his life after basketball. And make sure he doesn't do anything stupid to jeopardize that.

I think the years of continued hoops vs just his sheer size. It has been noted shaq high weight he carried not to mention the deep playoff runs, yet he's never had season ending injuries that Yao has had. If yao comes back, cool, I wouldn't count on it as the rockets are concerned.

You all are missing the point when it comes to Yao's body. there are big heavy guys yes. shaq is heavier. but when you combine the weight with the structure of the body, the long guys have problems. and when you are talking about 7 footers to 7'6 ers there is a big difference in the way the body takes the stress. for once and for all we need to quit comparing ming to shaq, olaluwan, ewing, etc and compare him to the people of his body category: bol, muresan and bradley, etc

Ok, so did Bol, Muresan, and Bradley break their foot every season, too? :D

 Yao is Chinese. Before he came to NBA, he ate rice, you know, not the beef! So he has bad physique. Rick and the Chinese basketball team head coach use him so much! It's no doubt Yao become so fragile.!
