Just think, once his ankle is cleaned out, he's going to be able to soar eight or even nine inches above the floor. Seriously, though, if his legs feel better next year because of surgery and rest, hopefully he'll continue the improvement he's made in the past couple months as a shotblocker.

    I'm extremely happy.

Even if he doesn't get noticeably better, at least we'll know once and for all that it's a talent thing and not a stamina/rest thing.

LOL! Yah, the only problem is that some human rights org might have a problem with Yao being treated like a dog:D

Wow! I didn't know it was that long?

LOL! No dude, you have it wrong. Muslims fast during Ramadan for half a day (roughly 12-14 hours), they don't drink or eat anything for that period of time. However, at sunset they break their fasting and can eat/drink anything they want.

So it is not as harsh as eating nothing for an entire month, while only drinking liquids and nothing else (that can't be healthy to begin with):D

I don't think there's any doubt about Yao's talent. It's a combination of Yao's size and nonstop bballing all year long.

still i remember how hard it must have been on dream playing basketball and doing practices. all that running up and down the court must have worn on him greatly. i remember watching games where he would put gatorade in his mouth and then spit it out, i guess it kept his mouth wet but he would not drink. i mean i'd like to see anyone here not take a drink of water after exercising heavily for an hour. he did it for a month. practices must have been the toughest for him to endure. at least with the games i think the sun would have set sometime in the middle of the game so he could replenish himself then. (what was hell were those afternoon games on nbc)

as for the rest like i said before great news. hopefully yao will improve his game or work on something new. what i hope doesnt happen is people starting to put even more expectations on him because he has gotten a summer off. he average 18.3 and 8.4 this year if he can make the leap to 20ppg and anywhere from 9.5-10rpg i'd be very happy.

The 23rd Asian Games start this September, and it's in Doha, Qatar.

The 23rd Southeast Asian Games are played in Malaysia, which CNT have nothing to do with.

Yao will meet the chief officer of China Basketball Association within next few days in San Antonio. I think only then we will know for sure what kind of vacation he is gonna have.

So far, there is no such good news in Chinese media. All they said was basically the same---Yao will report to CNT at the end of June.

HI all, This news is too good to be believed:( . One thing i learned from past is that never fully believe such news until Yao or Chinese baseket association confirm that.

I still remain doubt about the news until such thing happens :( .

I remember seeing Hakeem running on the track behind Dulles High School all the time. He use to run like everyday when I was in middle school and the early years of high school.

Yao is constantly playing basketball, ever since he came into the picture, I have never seen him get more than 2 weeks off.

Hopefully this is a good chance for Yao to get some rest early on and then he can do some exercises that build stamina that he really can't do during the season.

This is great news but we should be cautious not to make way too much out of it. This "tantalizing" can lure us into expecting some unrealistics things from Yao.

We are bound to see marked improvement on Yao's part if this news hold true but how much improvement? I don't know - I will only try to expect little and be pleasantly surprised than to expect so much from him next season and be "disappointed" (relatively speaking). [I expect a 20-10-2-2 season].

Also we must continue to pray that the CBA gets done on time because it could screw a lot of things up for us including the summer league (which Yao will not participate in) and team organized off-season workouts (especially the ones at Toyoto Center).

Anyhow, get well, stronger, meaner, hungrier and more rested Yao. We are very proud of you.

Maybe they were watching the games and like the rest of the world saw Yao looking somewhat tired and winded.

    Clearly, this is fantastic news...

Having a summer off can only do wonders for Yao pyschologically and physically - so that's great. But I hope that Yao chooses from his own free will, just like Jordan, to spend his off-season working on much needed conditioning and explosiveness.

But I don't anyone should ask that of him....if he so chooses

Really, this rest will help Yao become a true champion....if he so chooses.

Yao got more than two weeks off last season between the Rockets season and his CNT training camp in Dallas.

I think that statement pretty much tells us you've never played any kind of organized sport.

Just to let you know, it takes a minimum 6 weeks of non-impact activity for most aches and pains from constantly playing a sport to alleviate. A solid recovery from a entire season of doing the same activity takes about 3 months from what I hear, but to be honest, i've never played a sport intensely for 9 months.

I can't imagine what it would be like to play a sport consistently for 3 years.
