Yao has mentality that does not fit in the NBA low post. Opposing players aren't nice. They aren't to be treated like fellow teammates. I remember when Mario Elie got undercut by that SOB Jalen Rose. It busted up Mario pretty badly. Yao must fully understand that it is almost like war out there. Rasho probably got a bonus for busting up Yao's elbow. If Yao continues to think in a manner that offers too much respect to his opponent, he will fail.

If Yao doesn't toughen up. This will be common.

    Next is Ben Wallace.

People are out to hurt Yao. Yao better change his mentality.

    some you guys are absurd.
yao played in all 82 games last year and gets hacked more than 95% of the league. not as many players take the abuse that yao takes just from being enormous (obscenely big guys tend to have lots of physical probs and often have career ending injuries... muresan, sampson, etc.). shaq missed a good number of games but i don't see people calling him a wimp.

The question is how will Yao change his mentality? Yao said in China that it is easier to move a mountain than to change one's temperment. Yao doesn't want to or know how to change his mentality. And no one around him wants to motivate Yao to do so Everyone is afraid to change Yao. And his parents live with him, they probably don't want Yao to change either.

I agree with you. Recognizing weakness of Yao is one thing. People who pick on him because of his play style is not a true Rocket's fan.

What's going to happen when he really starts to throw his bows around?

    "Pick on him....?"

You mean, we shoud just pamper him? Come on, man. This is a Sports BBS. Not a 12 step group.

All players are fair game! Yao is starting on his 3rd year. We want improvement.

True. But just be aware that everybody and their mother will be out to take on Yao 100%. And if he's not ready. This will happen.

He doesn't realize that the *role* players are out-playing him because they want to prove a point. He doesn't HAVE to change. No. Just be ready when he gets taken out again when some role player outplays him. Sooner or later he'll have to fight back. Unless, it's ok with him to be pushed around? Is that what you want?

Wimp or no wimp. Players that get outplayed are putting themselves in a position to get injured. Not all of Yao's opponents are "nice guys." Ya know?

"Intensity, discipline, concentration would be the three major reasons," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "Let's not kid ourselves. Our starters each game are getting their heads handed to them."

With how frequently Yao stumbles and falls down on the court, it was bound to catch up to him sooner or later. He’s also got to cut down on trying to draw charges. It’s not worth the potential risks that he’s taking every time he takes a big tumble.

NO ONE in the NBA is intimidated at all by Yao. It is open season on Yao. Everyone is gonna attack Yao this year.

If Yao insists on playing like a p***y, he should be treated as a p***y. I congratulate RASHO for straightening this guy out!

If Yao keeps playing like a wimp, man I hope he gets injured every night. Maybe that will make him think whether he has a place in this league!

I'm not buying NBA League Pass until I see some improvement in this team.

    Team Yao should be disbanded.

It's time for Yao to be nothing special and start from scratch.

I'd like to see the Chinese government put Yao through boot camp. Yao doesn't have to go through the Full Metal Jacket routine, but he definitely needs to be reprogrammed into a different person. He will have to stop doing all these damn endorsements that do nothing for him basketball-wise. If Rasho outperforms Yao this season, Yao can go ahead and ask for a contract similar to Rasho because he cannot honestly say that he is worthy of a max contract.

Brendon Haywood may have to go cheap shot on Yao again for Yao to get any fire in his play.

OK, I think I may have watched a different game than some people on this board. This was just the result of two low-post players getting tangled. That's it. And what, now other players are going after Yao? Please, give me a break! Are opposing centers trying to be more physical with Yao? Yes. Are they setting out to try to hurt him? Please! Why do some of you look at one instance and make a dumb assumption like saying Yao plays like a p***y? The man takes just as much pushing, pulling, grabbing and multiple elbows to his lower back as Shaq, yet who has played in more games the last two years? That's right, Yao has NEVER missed a game despite all the abuse he takes down low. Now, if you were to say Yao should do more of creating contact back, I would agree. But, for someone who's job description is to be continuesly beat up on a nightly basis, he keeps showing up to work and taking it all on. That says alot to me.

Perception is more important than reality.
What Yao needs to do is one of the following:

    1. Hit somebody hard on the court so that the guy would be put on the injuried list for at least 3 month
    2. Be fined by the league for dirty play, rough play.
    3. Be caught with possessing drugs
    4. Be caught with Speeding

    Preseason criticism is silly.

Y'all want Yao to "Cowboy Up" and play physical 365/24/7 so he WON'T GET HURT? I'm sorry. That's IDIOTIC.

Not only does the most physical player in the league avoid that... Shaq plays hard ~1/3 the season... and he's still injured 20 games/yr because OF HIS PLAYING STYLE. Guys pound him as hard as they possibly can.

Newton's third law: Equal and opposite reaction.

Walton's third law: NBA centers will always push back.

"Clutch"fans third law: Calling Yao a p***y is as close as I'm ever going to get. ;) Come on, the sky doesn't fall in the preseason. At LEAST wait until the 1st loss.

I wish every preseason thread could be deleted next Tuesday.

Yes, breaking the law is clearly the answer.

Then the other team won't send a scrub to beat on him during games.

Forget it. The group logic is irrefutable. I refuse to watch a Rockets game until Yao:

    1) Get's a full body dragon tattoo that goes up his arm into his jersey, out his shorts down one leg, up the other leg, out his jersey again down the other arm.

    2) Contracts venereal disease. Gotta be CDC-reportable like syphilis. No wussy STD's like herpes.

    -and-

    3) Get's a DUI and spends a minimum of a night in jail for b****-slapping a policeman.

Yes. THEN Rasho Nesterovic would think twice about tangling his arms up with Dragon Yao.
