    An intelligent comment. Thank you.

Although, I do feel Yao will be better than Amare, without a doubt.

What's the NBA anyway? Do you really believe that team is not here to make money? How do you justify the outrageous salary paid to the players? It's pretty obvious Rox draft Yao not only serve the need to improve the team because the team doesn't have a good big man, but also increase international influence & huge marketing potential.

EVERYONE COMPLAINS ABOUT YAO ONLY FANS, WELL WHAT ABOUT YOU DREAM ONLY FANS? WHY DO YOU PEOPLE CONTINULEY DISS YAO? THE MORON WHO STARTED THIS SHOULD BE SHOT. LET GO OF THE PAST . LETS LOOK TOWARDS THE FUTURE. ITS A SHAME BECAUSE I DONT BELIEVE ANY OTHER PLAYER IN THE NBA GETS DISSED MORE BY THEIR OWN FANS THAN YAO. PLEASE WHEN YAO AND FRANCIS WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP YOU PEOPLE CAN STAY THE F@#K OUT.

I don't know why these comparisons keep popping up.
Dream is a proven champion bound for the HOF, sure he did have an attitude but he showed his humble side too.
Yao has just come into the league, and has shown plenty of potential and upside to his game. It is unfair to try and place him next to the guy who personifies the Rockets.

Maybe if he stays in houston for the next few years, brings in a couple of rings, and starts showing off all-star presence on the courts, then we could start discussing who was better? Dream's dynasty or the Yao Ming dynasty?

but I'm guessing people would start to argue about the different players on the teams... yada yada.. ooo Yao had Steve while Hakeem had to do most of it alone.. blah blah blah...

    Shanghai and Snow,

Are you guys like 10 years old?

First off, what the hec is this talk about Amare being like Hakeem or Shaq? LOL. That's hilarious.

U guys were definitely not watching bball in the late 80's or early 90's if you think the quality of big men has improved since then. It's gotten DECIDEDLY worse.

You put a guy with Hakeems' skillset and athleticism in TODAY's NBA against the crappy big men and centers and he'd be even more dominant than he was in his prime.

Yao will never be as good as Hakeem, not even close really. Hakeem was miles better defensively.

Right now, Yao is mostly hype. He gets pushed around easily, is slow footed. I see him as a good center, but not a top 10 NBA player of all time, like Hakeem was.

When you judge Yao, often times you take the BB I.Q. very lightly.

Let's compare Mobley and Manu Ginobili.
In pure athletism Mobley is way ahead.
In BB talent, Cat is better too, his shot, his drive ... he is even quicker in defense ...
Cat's stat is way better ...

But don't u just get frustrated at Cat sometimes and u love Manu all of the time?
Cat gives u a lot of pluses together with his minuses.
Manu gives u just a little pluses but with none the negatives.

Whom do u want on your team?
    It's debatable, I think.

    Yao or Hakeem?
Why don't u check back in 5 yrs and see ?!

    that is just the question.

the question is why your' true roc fans ' made this stupid poll and made us to argue for the past against the future of roc.

your people just want to win a poll which to chose between the past fifteen years and the future fifteen years of rocks now.how to win that? at least , your people must be waiting for fifteen years.

i don't know who is the winner. i am sure the rocket is not.

there are a lot of yao haters here ,why? why not? yao shoudn't be 7'6, he is too tall to easy to be hurted. ÕýËùν£ºÄ¾ÐãÓÚÁÖ£¬·ç±Ø´ÝÖ®¡£
    i voted for yao,of course.

Hakeem. No contest. As much potential as I see in Yao, it would shock me if he ever reaches the level Dream was playing at between 92' and 96'.

Perspective from a person with MYD:

Yao vs. Joe Montana in football:

Well, Joe was good and he did engineer a 4th quarter comeback or two during his career. Plus, he has those championship rings.

However, Yao is much taller than Joe, and therefore, would be able to see defenses and open receivers better. Gimme Yao here.

Yao has better field visioin than Joe also.

Yao vs. Wayne Gretzky in hockey:

Wayne was the greatest. However, we don't know how good Yao would be at hockey. No one would be able to check him. Yao's slap shot would be unstoppable. Does anyone remember Fulton in "The Mighty Ducks"???

I would have to go with Yao.

Yao probably has better rink vision than Gretz also.

Yao vs. Barry Bonds in baseball:

Yes, Barry might be one of the best hitters ever in the sport. But Yao has those long arms and legs. He would probably sway at least 50 or 60 homers in a season and steal 40 or 50 bases. I have to go with yao.

Plus, Yao has better diamond vision than Barry does.

Yao vs. Tiger Woods in golf:

Ok, this one is close. Tiger is one of the greatest, plus he is almost as marketable as Yao is. But can he hit a ball 400+ yards like Yao probably could??? I don't think so.

Oh, and Yao has better course vision than Tiger does.

Yao vs. Serana Williams in tennis:

Are you kdding me?? Yao is so tall and long that Serena would never get a shot past him. And can you imagine a 200MPH serve coming from Yao? Phew!!!!

I forgot to add, Yao has better tennis court vision too.

    Yao vs. Secretariat

Ok, this is just insulting. Man always will beat beast. Yao's legs are much longer and stronger than Secretariat's. Plus, Yao doesn't need someone to wip him on his butt to run fast.

Yao has better track vision too.

    Yao vs. George Washington

This is not even close. Yao is the hero to 8 Billion Chinese people. How many amercians were there when G.W. was president? Thats what I thought.

I bet Yao had better leadership vision too.

Anyone that picks Yao is as idiotic as Spurs fan saying that David Robinson is better than "The Dream". Hakeem is probably the most versatile center in NBA history. He could pass, shoot, bang down low, jump hook, unstopable dream shake, block shots and rebound. Olajuwon invented moves almost everytime he touched the ball. Hopefully Yao can reach that plateau some day.

I remeber that Yao Ming has been on the cover of SI three times in his first NBA season. Dream was on the cover of SI two times in his whole life. Yao's story was on MSNBC prime time last week. There is a movie of Yao, which will be released next year. The staff of NBA TV are following and recording every thing of Yao Ming in China.

Therefore, I will say that Yao is more marketable than Dream.

Reading some of the replies overwhelmingly favoring Hakeem has partially restored my faith in the way folks think on this message board.
