that says all, VISA picked Hakeem when he got the ring; they picked Yao when he entered the door.

How about end this silly thread now? both Yao and Hakeem
belong to Houston. You can argue Yao is not in Hakeem's
league in terms of individual talent. Duncan is not in Hakeem's
league too, both he is a better team player and now harvests
rings more efficiently than Hakeem. I would be content with
"far less talented" Yao getting rings like Duncan.

Its better to be Hakeem only fans, since hes a top 10 all time great, hes gave the city of Houston its first Championship for any major sports, stayed with the rockets for 17 years. So in many sedimental minds he is the Houston Rockets.

Wrong again. anti-yao disease caused people think that yao fans(not yao-only fans) think Yao is better than Hakeem.

As a current true rox fan, I madly love all players of rockets, Rudy and upcoming JVG.

Notice the words ring!!! how could Visa pick Yao without it?!

    because......

To the power of Yao, NOT the power of Ring!

This says it all: VISA picked up Yao because there are substantially more Chinese people around the world than there are Nigerian.

Does anyone consider that? Yao isn't more marketable than Hakeem was because of talent, he is more marketable because of his ethnicity.

Would Dream average 40 pts and 20 rebs if he played in the era against Wilt??

Basketball has evolved a great deal. Simply relying on stats can be very misleading..

Yao-only fans think that Yao is better than Hakeem. They are not truly Rockets fans. They have Mad Yao Disease (MYD)

the reason yao is getting all these endorsements has more to do with the 1 billion people in China. it has less to do with what yao has done on the basketball court.

hakeem earned his endorsements with his play. yao hasnt earned his yet. hopefully, in the future, he will.

At least now you admit Yao is more marketable, good sign.

Well, seeing as how Yao hasn't even made the playoffs yet, and seeing as how it is unlikely that we will make the finals next year, Yao has quite the learning/championship curve to catch up to, as Hakeem accomplished both in his 1st two seasons.

Lets not count Yao's rings when he is not nearly as close to the player Duncan was when he came into the league.

Yeah, I am a Yao fan and would have voted Hakeem but chose not to vote this silly pool. Right now Hakeem has clear edge
but if Yao could bring more rings than Hakeem, I would
    reconsider my vote.

But you must have seen a game with Dream!!!! He looked and is way more talented than Yao. And it wasnt that far away. When Dream was still averaging 20+ pts in 97. Thats not far away...

I am saying that Yao is more marketable because of his ethnicity, not because of talent. Personally, I think its much more respectable to be marketable based on what you do instead of who you are.

You are the most narrow minded Yao only fan I have ever seen on this BBS. And that is saying something.

if he can put up these type numbers vs Shaq (who is about the same size as Wilt), then yes, hakeem definitely could have done that in the era of Wilt

Dream looked and is way more talented than Duncan too.
Is that really important? What matters are rings, rings, rings.

You don't have to rely only on stats, you can rely on what you see. I honestly don't see anyone, that has seen both a young Hakeem and a young Yao play, saying that Yao would be a better option than Hakeem.
