would phoenix trade amare for yao? probably not, but they'd think about it. the rockets would hang up the phone and laugh in the reverse scenario. amare is in the absolute best situation for his skillset. he plays in an uptempo system with the best pg in the game and he's flanked by shawn marion. i mean when was the last time a team centered it's defense on doubling amare stoudamire? he's an all-star on any team but he hasn't seperated himself from yao even in a dream scenario. yao moved past amare the second half of 05-06 and up till he got hurt this season. he didn't look the same in the playoffs but he'll get his game back this summer.
I'll take the pre-injury "you can't f-ing stop me Yao" over any big man in this league except maybe for Duncan, and that's a maybe. But this year's first round exit, and to some extent the DAL-HOU playoff three years ago when Avery put up Josh to attack Yao really exposed Yao's weakness as a defender. Make no mistake about it, Yao works very hard but he is limited by his physical capability. Someone need to address that, by what means I don't know, and that's why I'm not making their $$$.
For people questioning Yao's durability because of this year's leg injury, this is my question: Would Amare be even able to stand if I dropped a 200 pound weight on his knee? If these people still doubt the issue of Yao's durability, then my next question is this: Would Amare have recovered in only 9 weeks from an injury normally estimated to be fully healed in 12 weeks. Those who continue beating the 'Yao is injury prone drum' clearly cannot see the heart of the matter. My direct response to the topic thread is that I would pick Yao. He achieved his stats with only Tracy and a deeply flawed team. Amare had Nash, Marion and Barbossa. No team can afford to double Amare; most teams NEED to double Yao.
I think that Amare Stoudemire is one of the most overrated players in the NBA. He's good, but so much of what makes him good is Steve Nash. In any other offense with any other PG, Amare is nowhere near what they say he is. Amare + Nash for Yao? Now we're talking. I'd prefer Amare + Barbosa (actually, I'd prefer Barbosa + Matrix, but that won't happen), but I might be able to accept Amare + Nash. And Les wouldn't let Yao go for any less than Amare + Nash + Matrix. Yao just brings him TOO MUCH MONEY. Speaking of, the very idea of that trade would be idiotic. Neither team will trade away their franchise player.
i think the rockets should explore a herschel walker type trade with yao...try to set the franchise up for the next decade
I would not trade Yao for LeBron James. . Much Less Stoudemire .. . . I would not trady Yao for Kobe No . . No.. . . NO!!!! Rocket River The Rockets did not make a Mistake!
???? Kareem Started in like '72 and Majic came in like 82 who was the all Star Guard before Irv? Rocket River
Phoenix would hang up on up we offered yao for amare. If yao played for phoenix he would be out of the offense half the time and winded the other half. I think even yao has said this before. Yao is good for the rockets and amare is good for the suns.
If Yao could play hard for 35mins and hold on to the ball, it would even be close. I would still take yao because teams ask him to get a shot from a standstill position whereas Amare is asked to catch and finish. Its kinda like what the Rox ask Hakeem to do vs Big Dave. Big Dave would spot and finish from dribble penetration, but Hakeem would have to be the play stater and finisher.
He is a fantastic athlete yet. But it doesn't make him a better rebounder (Yao 9.4rpg vs Amare 9.6rpg), or a blocker (Yao 2bpg vs Amare 1.3bpg) especially considering the Suns have a lot more possessions than the Rockets. Actually, Amare generally has a tough time scoring when Yao is guarding him.
without the knee injury, it would be a toss up that slightly favors amare. but now, wif adelman in the house, yao will finally blossom next season and u guys will witness greatness. greatness man.
yeah, Nash runs to the bottom line and is doubled and he passes the ball to Amare. Then Amare just dunks. The Rox did not think of a good way to pass the ball to Yao until last season. I remember Yao always gets a high score when he plays against the Suns. I was happy when he blocked Amare five times in one game.
Which team has better chance of making it to the finals or would win in a head to head series from this past year? Yao-C Marion-PF Diaw-SF Bell-SG Nash-PG Barbosa Banks Thomas Rose Amare-C Hayes-PF Battier-SF T-Mac-SG Alston-PG Mutombo Howard Head Snyder V-Span Novak I think the Suns might still be the better team, because they simply have better players. Even though, Yao would slow them down a bit against a team like the Spurs or the Jazz and they have to tweak their gameplan a bit. And, I personally think it would actually at times helped the Suns, because if you have a Yao Ming on the team, you will have alot of open 3s and jump shots and he draws alot of fouls. And those are a few things the Suns like to do,. He would be the type of player that could actually win them the series. There is no way they could single cover him the entire series, cause the Spurs big men would foul out by 3rd Quarter and it would force Duncan to play him. At the same time, they cannot double team him the whole game with shooters like Barbosa, Marion, Nash, and Bell. I wouldn't want to leave any those players open for whole game.
and if we drafted Amare, it would be did we make a mistake on not drafting Yao who can help to control the offense when Nash is not on the floor (or did some people not see how pathetic they look with Barbosa masquerading as a PG when Nash was injured). People are never happy.
I tepends on who is the most important to his team. I'll take yao because Nash can make each his teamates better even without Amare, but what abou Houston?
