no new moves, more POWER moves. he neds to get them into foul trouble. again, upper body strength. its so easy to push yao out by using the hands. sure they can be called fouls , but they're not. even this shaq would demolish okur and bring him to a fast death
YAO, IF YOU ARE READING this thread............. YOU need to PUMP FAKE on every other shot, to get fouls and make OKUR think twice since your moves have become too predictable for him.
The problem of Yao is not in his moves. The problem is the position. In the recent games, he is getting the ball too far away from the hoop, most times out of the paint area. In that range, his usable moves become very limited. As he try to put the ball down to dribble and back his way into the paint, TO. In a good day his turnaround jumper can work from a good range. Yet recently he's been turning around away from the hoop, which makes it a very difficult shot. I have no idea why he does that. But the bottom line is even with his jumper, Yao should try to get deep position to make the most damage. The reason he couldn't get deep position, I would say, at least 50% is because the guards or whoever feeds the ball weren't feeding at the right time. Yao is not strong enough to hold the position or get good positions at will, but he does get the position for a short while before getting pushed out.
he just can't do it anymore now, can't u see it? it is not his will, he is just not capable to handle it as before, for what ever the reason.
I like yao, but he is 20 feet tall, there is no excuse he doesn't average double digit rebounds. He has to get a killer instinct and fast or we could be done till next year. Plus he must chill on the TO's. T-Mac can't let AK47 lock him down defensively like he did in the second half. Please rockets don't go down to the Utah Jazz, not hte freakin Jazz.
Some of you guys are so hilarious. It is really funny reading all these threads about Yao and Tmac. Have they struggle somewhat this series? You bet, but it has to do with how the games are called and a tough tough Utah defense. First of, for all the guys who are saying that Yao isnt aggressive, how can someone NOT be aggressive and avg over 10 FTs a game? Seriously, I dont understand or comprehend some of the fans on here. Second, Ive seen time and time again where Yao has the deep position, but guys like Rafer and Luther are hesitant to pass him the ball. Lastly, Yao is getting hacked and pushed on every play, and this is the PLAYOFFs, the refs are not going to send a player 20x to the line. If you listened to Reggie Miller's comment yesterday, you will realize that he is almost fouled and pushed on every play. What frustrates me most about Yao's play mostly is that he has gone one dimensional. Where is that face up jump shot? Where is that QUICK base line shanghai shake? The only moves he has done of late is ram into Okur and then turn around for the shot. To me, its almost as he is trying to hard to go at Okur and that is totally not his game. He needs to be a little smarter and use some finesse to his game.
i have a hard time criticizing yao for his defense on boozer, when he's clearly guarding a man out of position. he's a 7'6" center guarding an all-star pf that smaller/quicker defenders have a problem matching up with. it's not a pass for him to be sh!tty but he's giving an effort i believe. the problem with yao right now is that he's basically getting single coverage from okur and he's not tearing him a new one. the yao pre-injury would average 35 a game this series under that kind of defense and i don't think yao's cracked 30 once so far. he's settling for fadeaway's and jumpers, which isn't that big of a deal, but he's not on target and he's not trying anything else. i find it hard to believe that mental domination he had for nearly a year is just gone all of a sudden. his combination of just flat-out looking slow plus not really attacking the rim makes me think he's not physically healed yet. we can win this series without a monster yao ming but getting a championship would be real hard unless he comes though big time.
Not only Yao but the whole team need to step up. In the playoff you have to see no fear. I am glad that Juwan Howard did something on last game to lit up some fires in the Rockets engine. Do not get me wrong I am not condoles violent but you have show no fear when people try to push you around. Go Rockets start up your egine and ready to lift off.
i dont care about reb or blocks... but if yao give me 50 pts i'll be the happiest man on earth because considering the whole damn team averages around 80 in this series
i also have a problem with the amount of people who think that yao should rebound more because he's tall. rarely does height have anything to do with rebounding. look at barkley and rodman. recently ben wallace. you can look at our team and see chuck hayes consistently outrebound men much bigger than him. there's too many people who criticize yao for not being dominant enough at his height when nobody his size has come anywhere close to being this good. if all that it required to throw up 30 and 15 was being 7'6" then there would be a heck of a lot more bigmen in the nba. he sacrifices a lot as far as coordination and athleticism to be that size. i consider him more of an athletic freak than an athletic liability. he hasn't really brought the good stuff out this series the best has yet to come from him in the future.
BigM, gotta give you props on your post. You nailed it on the head. Experts, analysts, fans all forget that a 7'6 big man will have a much tougher time doing the same things a 7'0 or a 7'1 guy does. Yao may have a strong lower body but his height and weight probably takes an enormous toll on his knees and feet.
I will say this about Yao and his shooting.... To become a GREAT player, he is going to have to be able to hit that 10 foot jumper. Sure we would love for him to get deeper position, but that won't always be available. The GREAT ones find ways to EXTEND the range of their game. They can hit that medium range jumper. All of those "turn around" shots Yao is taking with Okur guarding him and with Yao about 10 feet away from the basket, Yao has to HIT those shots. Period.
Agreed - Yao is not getting the ball in good position from team mates. He is getting poor passes from team mates. He is gettting a lot of hard contact - fouls from the Jazz- do not call me a whiner- the Jazz see what they can get away with from officials and they are exploiting it.Dirty dog team Jazz
Agreed - Yao moves really good - really good to be so big. People fail to appreciate the tool his size takes on his body.
right on. Not only will he score more, he'll get the Rockets in the bonus much faster. JVG needs to stick his head out of his ass and figure a better plan to get Yao better position down low without getting 3 sec called on him. Or figure out a way to get him easy shots from the ft area. geez
