i think yao should be doing both. inside and outside. isnt that how a player breaks down defenders? he didnt do much perimeter shooting during the playoffs. if he continues to play only inside then he will eventually lose his shot. and you want to tell me that yao scoring during TRASH time is supposed to make me feel like he's this dominating player? if you can recall many of the rockets games, yao stands there wide open 15 ft from the basket looking to pass the ball. he is capable of knocking that shot down and he should. then he can take them in the post. isnt it better to incorporate a well-rounded game rather than just posting up? AND FOR THE LAST TIME, I WAS TALKING ABOUT HAKEEM'S OUTSIDE SHOT. NOT HIS POST GAME. YAO IS CAPABLE OF DOING THAT. but yao should only work the post right? turn him into shaq right? dont ever let him shoot from outside right? because it seems like that is what van gundy is doing to him.
Wait, did you say Yao is supposed to be "breaking down" defenders? So, uh... what exactly do you have in mind for Yao, here? Make a few outside jumpers, so that the defender starts jumping out at him while hes' facing the basket... so that Yao can throw a nasty cross-over in the defender's face, and then its 2 steps and a dunk? Riiiight. At least the theory of relativity made sense. The best way to use Yao is exactly the way T-Mac worked with him in game 6/7. Pick and roll, get him the ball on the way to the basket. Throw the ball into him even when the defense is fronting (he can beat it, unless they start double-teaming him before the ball gets there). He was absolutely dominant when the team used him that way, and he'll always be dominant whenever the team uses him that way.
Stop hatin' on Yao and let him grow his way (not your way). Who wouldn't want da Dream to coach him? But Ewing's not a bad start, mebbe in a few years they'll even throw in Hakeem.
doesnt mean there aren't better coaches. who has he played for? Butch Carter, Doc Rivers? if we could bring in someone like lenny wilkens i think it would be much better than van gundy. bob jones is the best ceo i ever worked with, but that doesnt mean that bill gates wouldnt be a better ceo.
my way IS to bring someone like hakeem in to coach him. Ewing isnt a bad start but he isnt a winner. neither is van gundy. i would bring rudy back even if we could.
breaking down defenders as in killing them from outside and inside. they dont play defense on him when he's within shooting range because they know he WON'T shoot it. this makes it easier for them to double team T-Mac. if yao is an outside threat then they have to have someone on him at all times thus freeing up T-Mac or someone else. it's basic basketball logic. i guess if you played the game well you would understand.
if you are insinuating that I was formerly known as this person then you're sadly wrong. why do ppl keep thinking that? i'm not afraid of stating my opinion. and being called a "troll" isnt going to stop me.
so weird..... anyway, i have to agree that Yao plays below his potential...and while he did play hard in game 7, he often also played soft. Fatigue - maybe. But still, ,after 3 years in the NBA, one woud think he'd be conditioned by now. Lung problem? I don't buy it. I think it's mental. Totally mental. Oh well, what can you do?
Watching suns vs dallas now. It is sick how the suns get the calls that rockets would never get. If the officials treat Yao the same as Amare, Yao would average 25 pts a game. NBA officials make me sick.
Yao gets tired too easily because he has to do so much. how many 7 footers in the league do you see setting screens at the 3pt line then running back to the paint EVERY play? the things he do are unheard of for a center or player of his size. Yao also defends the pick and roll on the defensive end too. You ever see shaq doing those things? Absolutely not. Yao is asked to do so much on both ends of the floor, and this is a direct result of the rockets not having key players at key positions. The rockets came into this year rebuilding, and to go as far as we did is incredible. When the rockets pick up a better pf and pg you will see yao's fatigue problems slowly go away.
i certainly hope so. yao tries to do a lot on both ends but the coach should know his limitations and if the officials are calling moving picks on yao then van gundy should change his strategy in order to keep yao out of foul trouble. good coaching should prevent yao from making costly mistakes and if he is going to play in the paint then they REALLY need to teach him how to box out and rebound. it took him a whole freakin season to learn how to hold the ball above his head after boarding. either he's a slow learner or van gundy/ewing aren't doing a good job.
if by "Fakes" you mean Lakers then pish off! i hate the lakers and after living in la la land for a year i have grown to appreciate the clippers although they are cursed like many houston teams.
