To some extent the argument that Yao is being overlooked by teammates is warranted, but not to the extent that it appears here on these boards. There are times when they could pass to Yao more, but there are also plenty of times when Yao is being denied the pass. Teams will muscle him out of position on the blocks and or double team him without the ball, thus making a pass to Yao ill advised. In addition there are times when Yao is open but earlier in the game he's been ineffective, turning the ball over and things like that. I think the keys to fixing the problem will come once Yao learns more about the game, and how to establish his position. On the other side once Rockets players learn how to play with a top quality big man, and they have better opportunities to get Yao the ball the more that will happen. Again, only part of the blame for not getting Yao the ball goes to his teammates, other teams defenses also play a big part. I wish people's arguments against Yao's teammates would reflect this.
I have been saying this since the first time I saw him play. We have Yao Ming, and he is a nice player....what we need is.... YAO MEAN DD
Anyone can improve and so can Yao. I would not expect Yao to suddenly become quicker, faster or stronger .... I would not expect Yao to become the quickest, fastest or strongest guy in the NBA in 5, 10 years either. There is only so much you can learn and train. A good part of it is genetics.
You need to care, Ming!!! http://www.nba.com/games/20030319/HOUPOR/recap.html The Rockets struggled to mount any offensive attack in the final quarter, making just three baskets in the first nine minutes. Houston could not get the ball to 7-5 rookie center Yao Ming, who took just one shot during that span. "I think our biggest problem was not offensive but more defensive," Yao said through an interpreter. "I don't care how many times I touch the ball." While Yao may not care, the Rockets might be concerned that they did not find a way for him to get more touches on a night when he shot 5-of-9 from the field.
Yes I agree. Yao should show some mean streak and physically abuse Mobley and Francis everything they misbehave on the court - after every dumb basketball moments. Yao should grab those little twats by their ears and drag them to the "time-out" corner for reprimand purposes when a need for it arizes. Yao should just go ahead and take the chalk board from the Clueless Larry and start drawing up our plays henceforth. These are drastic times and only a drastic Yao could see us through this rubbish we call team.
