Okur does well too. As does Shaq even now. Yao cannot back up against Shaq.

Above are examples of players defending him from behind.

Just about anyone can contain Yao by fronting.

Sometimes I felt I came to the Magic forum. It is weird to see so many so called Rockets fans try their best to support DH instead of their own franchise center in the Rockets fans forum. Fans are supposed to be biased to their own players. To me, as long as who is the best center between Yao and DH is debatable, I will always give my vote to Yao.

One of the best posts of the year!
We Rockets fans need to be watching this post to learn how to support Rockets and our own players.

Howard's lack of offense in the post and his inability to create for others got exposed once again.

The league just does not have great centers anymore. I guess I am spoiled having watched a number of great centers in 90s and early 00s.

It really surprises me that even at this point, some so-call Rockets fans are still defending their position of how great Howard is and how poor Yao is. Why is this even a debate? Howard is great player, but Yao is as good as, if not better than, Howard.

Yao can learn one thing or two from Howard. This is NOT because Howard is superior; rather, it is because Yao is a GREAT player. All the greats are willing to learn from the successes and mistakes of other players, even those inferior ones.

This simply does not make any sense. Think hard, my friend...

The true reason is NOT that we don’t produce athletes like 80's or 90's who can be good centers. Instead, it is because the rule changes in the NBA that either scare them away into playing other positions or prevent them dominant! You should really appreciate Yao or Howard for making this position alive and entertaining!

Difference is, Yao best days are behind him. D. Howard will only get better. Yao is injury proned, soft and isn't very consistent in his game. Half the time he's okay, and the other half, he looks lost and very timid.

There is NO guarantee Howard will get any better at all....NONE....

He has been in the league for 4+ years and has no offensive game....still...

He is a mini-Shaq....a great talent, but Yao is way more skilled.

I will take either....but give me big Yao......every day of the week.

Just get one or two more players and we will beat those Lakers.

The Rockets were the 2nd best team in the league this year....they are VERY close.

I actually agree with your post DD.

Yao is much skilled offensively AND still plays effective defense due to his size. The only reason for someone to pick Dwight is because of HEALTH.

I know right... You can be unbiased and analyze your debates by statistics and wins, but sometimes you got to show your own team and players support...

Lol howard invisible again! What an overrated chump. Winning the rupaul conference is no accomplishment when you get smoked 4-1 once you face a western conference team. The rockets, blazers and nuggets would have smoked the magic too.

I never said anything about athletes. Having a good post game does not imply athleticism. Howard has all the athleticism in the world but he he cant create for others. Yao has very limited athleticism but he can still create for others.

Here the centers of 90s who could create offense...

    Hakeem
    Shaq
    Ewing
    Robinson
    Mourning
    Dougharty
    Smits

I have a hard time believing that these guys would be shut down with today's rules.

This is absolute false. We don’t know if Yao’s best days are beyond him yet. He does not have to play for China in the summer anymore, and this alone will potentially keep his career longer and his improvement continue. Yao may be injury-prone but don’t ever call him soft. In fact he is one of the toughest players in the NBA – he is just not your chest-pumping, foul-mouthed type whom some people associate the tough guy with. And YES, Yao is the most consistent player on the team, give you 20-10 days in and days out with high efficiency.

Doesn't matter if you get a couple more players for Tmac's contract.

Fortunately, some people conveniently forget this critical fact when they put up an argument.

As far as I am concerned. A True Rockets fan do not bash their own player and keep hounding them even though the season is over. Any person who does this is nothing but a snot nose imbecile who craves attention due to some psychological trauma encountered early in childhood.

So basically you are saying anyone can guard Yao one on one.
