I am just surprised there are abnormal percentages of fans here would argue constantly that Howard is better than Yao. I can understand fans HERE saying Yao is better than Howard, it's a Rockets Board anyway. Just like I would be really surprised if I go to a Orlando board and find out most their 'TRUE fans' think Yao is better than Howard.

How about this make a poll outside of Houston and Orlando and then see who comes out of top. I'll be ready to bet everything I had that Howard would win.

About what percentage of NBA fans outside of Houston (and China) and Orlando do you think considers Howard to be greater than Yao? Next, what percentage on this board would you guess considers Howard to be greater than Yao? Here are the choices, and tell me what you think:

    0-20%
    20-40%
    40-60%
    60-80%
    80-100%

I think its safe to say its between 60%-100% outside of Houston, China, Orlando, and between 20-60% on this board. You may think its abnormally high on this board, but I'd guess that relative to most neutral fans it is not.

    http://www.nba.com/2008/tipoff/10/21/gmsurvey.players/index.html

Before this season, 56% of GMs polled on the NBA.com survey said that Howard was the best center in the league, 26% said Yao, and 18% said Duncan. I imagine Howard's stock rose significantly this year (though Yao had one of his better years as well). Probably at least 2/3 would consider Howard "better" than Yao at this stage, and I think that's conservative.

Thanks. And you're right after this year it would most likely be higher than 56%.

Lets just say Yao is the better player even with that as a GM you still would have to take Howard because of age and health.

I really do not want to be dragged into this debate ...

My point is if two players are in the same class (Howard(%56), Yao(%26) I think it's the same class), the fans would always think their franchise players better.

Overall fans may think CP3 is the best PG, but most Jazz fans think J Will is better. It happens to almost all sports teams, why the Rockets are so different?

Well, if we take the survey literally, the question was, "Who IS the BEST center in the NBA?"

that's the perfect argument actually. dwill always and usually outperforms chris paul (as his teams always win) when they go head to head. but chris paul is a top 3-4 player in this L as a consensus.

CP3 has good numbers because of the Hornet's style of play (IMHO). He so often has the ball in his hands that assists are inflated at the expense of offensive efficiency. Reminds me of a certain 6'8" player out of Mount Zion ....

And I'd say most fans here think Yao is better. If you did a poll on it, I'd be surprised if this results showed otherwise.

I really do not care who's better? I am just pissed Yao dose not even get supports from the Rockets fans.

It's not really about who's better, it's hard to compare players, who's better? Kobe or James? Billups or Nash? Bosh or Stat, Alson or Fiisher? the list goes on and on... That's why the fans always support their franchise players.

I don't agree with your definition of "support". I support Yao, and I want him to be the best center in the league. Why? Because that means the Rockets have a better chance of succeeding. Being a fan means wanting your team to be the best they can be. Not that you overlook the evidence or twist the evidence to make them better than they are.

please, get out of here with that. so i'm sure lebron's #s are inflated. wade's #s are inflated. jordan's #s are inflated...

i mean, kobe referred to the cavs as the "lebron offense." i guess you don't want lebron james on this team right b/c his #s are inflated

I guess howard didn't have to travel or have back to backs, right? Post Howards stats in the playoffs vs those 3 teams and post Yao stats in the regular season vs those 3 teams and get back at me.

    I didn't say that ....

It is hard to compare CP3 and DWill because of the styles of offense. My Mount Zion reference was to address the apparent paradox of why our offensive efficiency goes down when Mount Zion's grad is in the game and he contributes 6 assists a game.
