Its better to be good rebounder on great rebounding team than a great rebounder on a horrible rebounding team. Yao should put more effort on the offensive glass though. The only people tryin to take those rebounds from him are the opponants.

who cares 9.5 rounded off pops up to 10, it's not really big deal. All we should be concerned about Yao is getting to the playoffs in one piece.

If he gets 16 tonight, he only needs to average 11 the rest of the year......he can do it....One big game and the rest a bit over 10 and he will be there.

And, truthfully, I know it is not really that important, but I have always liked stats...so I hope he does it.

    Update:

Yao is currently averaging 9.6 rebs/game after his 16 reb game against Utah. Yao needs to average 11.875 rebs over the next 8 games to get his double digit rebounding average.

    That's 95 more rebounds.

It will be tough because if playoff positioning is set by the last couple of games I can't see JVG playing Yao alot of minutes.

So, Yao should just get 5 straight 20 reb games and then he can rest for the last 3 games. :)

LOL - I was going to post EXACTLY this.....

He needs 15 boards above 10 a game, so if he gets 3 games of 15 and then the rest at 10 he will be there.

He just has to make up 15 rebounds in the next 8 games...he can do it.....COME on Yao....

Tom Tolbert said it on Lakers game. "Allowable contact on Yao and Shaq."

It's not a problem for Shaq because he can withstand it.

Yao probably loses several defensive rebounds a game because over-the-back on Yao is not called. (Allowable contact).

On the offensive end, Yao get called on many over-the-backs. Therefore he loses several rebounds a game for fear of getting fouls called on him.

EXACTLY. That's why Chuck Hayes would lead the team in rebounding if he could play 35-40 min + per game (I'm not saying he should, I'm just making a point).

I think you might have forgot Steve Nash, who has 18.9 and 11.5 right now. I'm sure at some point this season he had 20-10.

I think he will do it, assuming JHo, the stat hog, does not keep stealing rebounds from Yao.

very doable. but let's face it when it comes rebounding, Yao'll always be a notch or two below guys like KG and TD.
