Why do these guys wait until their late 20s to early 30s to get their wisdom teeth pulled? That's an operation most people have done in their teens or early 20s.

I don't think he is the first one critized you on this. It was insensitive and you just did it again! How did you feel when Shaq used a mock Chinese accent?

Looks like Yao really is injured.

    China Daily (English) link

Youth team center replaces injured Yao for Stankovic Cup
    (Xinhua)
    Updated: 2007-07-27 08:25

BEIJING - China coach Jonas Kazlauskas called up youth team center Li Xiaoxu for the upcoming 2007 Stankovic Continental Cup as regular starters Yao Ming, Du Feng and Chen Jianghua all set to miss it due to injury.
The Lithuanian named a 15-strong squad Thursday before the Chinese basketball national team departs for the tournament, which is to be held in Guangzhou, south China from July 28 to August 2.

Li was the only new recruiter of the team, while the other 14 all participated in the just concluded National Basketball Association (NBA) Summer League in the United States.

Former NBA player Wang Zhizhi and Yi Jianlian, who was picked by Milwaukee Bucks in this year's draft, will lead field for China in the Stankovic Cup, as the team's soul Yao had announced to skip this summer's all competitions after injuring his toe with Houston Rockets.

Yao will soon be back in Shanghai to have his rehabilitation training before coming to Beijing to join the national team on August 8, while Chen Jianghua and Du Feng, who got injured during their stay in the U.S., have not yet decided when to come back.

The 2007 Stankovic Cup has featured 6 teams from all five continents, with national teams of Slovenia, New Zealand, Venezuela and Angola, as well as D-League Ambassadors' team, joining the hosts China in the event.

Following is the 15-man squad of China named by Jonas on Thursday:

Li Nan, Wang Zhizhi, Mo Ke, Wang Zhongguang, Ding Jinhui, Wang Shipeng, Zhu Fangyu, Wang Lei, Li Xiaoxu, Zhou Peng, Liu Xiaoyu, Liu Wei, Zhang Songtao, Yi Jianlian, Sun Yue.

Wow, looks like pryuen is a little sensitive about someone else coming in here and posting Yao Ming news that he didn't know about.

Personally, I think the more 'insiders' we have on this board, the better. That is unless one of the 'insiders' is too immature to deal with someone else moving in on what he perceives as HIS territory...

Thanks for the scoop, denniscd. Keep us posted.

Dayum! Yao is like Samuel L Jackson in that movie 'Unbreakable' where he shatters into pieces at the drop of a hat! :(

I am Chinese too Pryuen. As harmless it may seem in Chinese, when it gets translated into English it does become culturally insensitive. You just have to be careful and be quick to accept these differences.

    Thank you, Roxfan123.

Sorry Denniscd. You're right that Yao Ming went to the dentist yesterday in Beijing right after the national team departed for Guangzhou/Macau.

But it seemed that he went there not for extracting/pulling the wisdom teeth; it was for ordinary tooth cavity fillings. And according to the article, it took only 15 minutes for the tooth cavity fillings.

Dude, give it up. Point is that he went to the dentist and is going to miss games or won't be able to play. Chill out man, don't take things so seriously.

If you said so....then be it........Whatever. Finnnnnnnnnnnnnnne.

It was not mentioned in the article that it had anything to do with pulling of a teeth, be it a bad tooth or a wisdom tooth. It only mentioned about 15 minutes of work by the dentist, and it was about tooth cavity filling. :p

Sheesh. Why are you offended when someone else is trying to offer additional Yao news? No one is trying to attack you or think any less of you for not scooping EVERY detail of his life. And how do you know your source is better than denniscd's? I like all the news you bring here, but the attitude is unnecessary. We're all fans of the same team/players here.

BTW, *I* talked to Yao personally yesterday. He just had some braces put in, and unfortunately it's the complicated head gear type:

He said he'll get a custom head band though, in Rockets red w/ the logo to match the uniforms. Can anyone prove me wrong?

Perhaps I missed it but where did denniscd say it was being pulled. He just said it was a problem with his wisdom tooth. So maybe Yao went in for a wisdom tooth cavity filling.

Well there were at least the following things that I'm not well convinced of the information provided by denniscd :p

    • CD has arrived;if he has arrived, given the personality/character of CD as described by denniscd, do you think there will not be any media exposure/coverage of him?
    • Yao Ming had had workout in the past week. So I wondered why denniscd said he stopped his workout?
    • And denniscd mentioned it was due to a wisdom tooth. Then in normal case, if you have a wisdom tooth, it will be more than just cavity filling. It is about extracting or pulling it off, right?
    • If it was just ordinary tooth cavity filling, it would be that painful that you need to stop the workout, right?
    • And if it was due to a wisdom tooth that it was so pianful that Yao Ming had to stop his workout "recently", then why it had to wait until yesterday that he went to the dentist? Why not immediately went to the dentist to pull it off or fix it to relieve the pain?

ugh give it a rest pryuen. I appreciate the work you do with the translations but you're not dick tracy, okay?

it's very clear that denniscd has some way to find out all of these things. deal with it.
