It was never gonna be. He was 7'6"..everyone who played at 7'4" or above was done by their early 30's...or logging such reduced minutes as to be completely neturalized. I love who Yao is as a person...but I feel sorry for a generation of Rockets fans who grew up with this being the franchise's best. Really grateful for James Harden.
Did we lose that game vs portland? I can't remember well but we had some tough fights vs portland in regular season with Yao as well.
Most of the highlights are in Yao's rookie year. Yao's creativity lost dramatically once JVG took over.
underneath whatever youtube video you're looking at, click share, then click embed. copy and paste the link it provides you.
Yao was so f'ing good -- that open court behind the back dribble in for the dunk was pure awesome. Running the floor at 7' 6" ... amazing.
sigh. I knew I shouldnt have watched this vid. I love Asik, but good lord, the vid reminds me of what we used to have at the 5 spot.
It's missing the Shanghai Shake, the Javale McGee sequence, the young SF/PF from the Warriors sequence (can't remember his name), and the "You can't ****ing stop me" play.
i think watching these highlights makes me wonder how much better yao would have been if he had not played for the chinese team and instead spent that time working with hakeem over ewing. Yao seemed to have the finesse early in his career that could have been utilized, instead he was tutored by ewing so he developed the pound the ball and hook or turn around jumper
