DHL it back to his new home in houston, so it will be waiting for ye when they return in early october.
This will be my last reply to this topic. Actually, most people I know in Taiwan welcome Yao's visit. Taiwan is known for its hospitality and open-minded culture. Many Taiwanese basketball fans look forward to seeing the Big Fella. Personally, when my government first dicided not to give him the permission, I was really pissed. However, I can understand why my government has so many concerns. Taiwan's democracy is still a young one, and about 15% of Taiwan's population still believe they are ethnic and political Chinese. In order to protect our young democracy and integrate the national identity of our people, my government just does its job and seems to be a little paranoid sometimes (but think about Israel...its people face similar issues and sometimes act like this...so it's understandable). But why Yao is quite popular in Taiwan? It's because of his charm, humour, ability and wise. We Taiwanese believe that Taiwan is a sovereign state and China is our greatest enemy, but we can tell the difference between a man and his country. Actually, I really want Yao to discuss the Olympics issue in Taiwan because his statement will definitely inspire more and more free discussions in the island. If I am the official in Taiwan's Mainland China Affairs Council, I will allow him to do so...becasue it will be good for the consolidation of our young democracy. But I'm not working in the Council but Ministry of Foreign Affairs... Again, why I start this debate? It's because Prynuen and other Chinese fans blamed everything on my country without doing a careful research in the background and Taiwan's law. In the other thread which is also relevant to Yao's visit, some Chinese fans even called Taiwanese "traitors of the nation" and the People Libration Army will bomb us to the ground. I believe in democracy, and freedom of speech is one of its elements. The U.S. is a democracy, so I was not afraid of releasing correct information for the purpose of defending my country. I think other Rockets Fans will have their own stands by reading each side's information. If Prynuen and other Chinese fans did their homework before saying anything offensive, I would not need to do so. During my daily work, I witness how Chinese bullies us in many aspects. Their government promises that China will not block Taiwan's participation in non-political areas, such as sports, entertainment, economy and culture. But the fact is they try to suffocate us! Like what I said in another thread, Chinese government asked Venezuela not to issue the visas to Taiwan's Youth Baseball Team, which is the winner of 2007 Asian Cup and should have competed for the global medal. It is a great example which demonstrates how Chinese treats Taiwanese. Since sports become Chinese diplomatic weapon, why Taiwan government cannot at least try to protect its people? At last, Prynuen, next time when you try to secretly bash Taiwan, please be aware that Taiwanese fans like me will be always glad to "discuss" with you. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE SAYING ANYTHING JUDGEMENTAL. Now I'm going to play my Husky and watch Yao on Taiwan's TV ....Gesus, he is really damn tall!
Well I would not say that....or else the professional diplomat will strike again.... IMHO, the management at The Sherwood Taipei obviously did some background research on Yao Ming, and was determined to make his stay a most enjoyable and memorable one. They must have read those stories about Ye Li likes stuff toys, so all those stuff toys and this king-size teddy bear. They have a birthday card ready for Big Yao who is going to be 27 next Wednesday (September 12) They knew that Yao Ming loves computer games....so all those PS#, PSP and Wii stuff.
http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2007-09-08/08423156304.shtml Yao Ming visted the Taipei 101, the 2nd tallest building in the world last night. Lots of media and fans waiting for him at the indoor observatory (89th floor). The ceiling was so low in some of the places that Yao Ming had to lower his back/head to avoid bumping his forehead. And when reporters were pushing each other to get the best position and angle for shots, Yao Ming just told them...."Give me a break. Save your flashes, as I do not have good eyesight." When asked about a dunk by a Taiwanese player, Sean Chen some years ago and the prospect of meeting Sean Chen again in a basketball game on Sunday, Yao Ming said: "Well I can never forget that dunk he had on me. Meeting him again this Sunday ? Well, this time, I'll be careful."
LOL, it's great to see that Yao finally gets to "seduce Taiwan's teenage girls and housewives" as a big bad Chinese in that close minded island. Have fun Yao. Have their souls. Break their hearts.
What?? Didn't he just get married? What (and how) did he do? Oh, damn, What's going on with Yao? Why the hell he wasted his time on this kind crap? I am worried that he won't be in shape when the training camp starts...
All this drivel doesn't mask one thing, the current Taiwan government officials initially rejected Yao because they are afraid the charm of Yao would break the China hating sentiment they try to instill in that close minded society - which boycotted pandas from China for the same reason. Now they are forced to do a reversal because they realize such a move shows the world what a joke they are.
Well, don't worry. There will be at least 8 games together with the China national team versus the Steve Nash led NBA Invitational Team, Australian Brisbane Bullets, Sydney Kings and top European teams Benetton Treviso (from Italy) and Moscow CSKA from September 14 onwards until October 1 before he returns to Houston. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=3105130&postcount=474 I firmly believe he will be back into his competitive form and shape when the training camp starts. What I'm worried though is after he plays together with Steve Nash on September 14 in the same team, he will seek for a trade from the Rockets cos he could not find a better point guard than Nash in the Rockets !! (Just joking !!) It was announced yesterday that in the Yao & Nash Charity Gala on September 14, Yao Ming will play the first half with the Chinese national team versus the Steve Nash led NBA Invitational team (which comprised of Nash, Greg Oden, Chuck Hayes, Bonzi Wells, Carmelo Anthony, Derek Fisher, Baron Davis, Leandro Barbosa, Robert Horry). Then in the 3rd quarter, Steve Nash will be borrowed to play as point guard for the Chinese national team to provide assists to Yao Ming. For the 4th quarter, the teams will be mixed up and composed of the players from both side up by public voting with Steve Nash and Yao Ming being captains for their teams. So I guess it will be fun !!
Well, if you have followed me around on YMM, you'll know I don't secretly bash Taiwan. I publicly bashed China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. I just don't like to discuss politics at all, because I don't see it worthwhile to discuss it cos I'm disappointed with the performance of both governments on both side of the Taiwan Straits. If you want to "discuss", yeah I can join you there in the D&D "battlefield". But just f@KC the hell out of this thread. BTW, I am pryuen and not Prynuen. Do your homework first please.
I remembered that NBA strar will leave some gifts to the hotel to thanks for their warm welcome after they leave. When Team USA came to China some years ago, LBJ left a PS2 and a lot of foods(I think he doesn't like to keep it). D.Wade left three shoes and a jersey. I think YAO maybe will leave some shoes or jersey with signature.
