I thought the causual from China side was something close to 1 million or more. I remember even some Chinese news papers use that number now. Anyways, war is bad, no war.

you know what? at that time the Chinese government didn't care about the causualty at all. all they wanted was the victory. and they won the war. that's what it matters to them. they are still proud of the victory.

Actually, Korean War has no winner. The matter of fact is that both sides signed a big relief when the war was ended.

Sorry to spent two posts on this off-the-subject topic.

    Now back to the topic...

Based on my understanding about the nature of Yao's conversation, and the paper this guy is working for, I have to believe all the interviews did took place.

I thought Yao is a pretty smart guy, but how can you trust a media guy as your closest friend? You get to understand that everything you say to this guy is not a private chat between buddies. Whatever you say will get published and could come back to hurt you. Someone from that TEAM YAO need to do something about this, or he can put himself in trouble down the road.

All right, I guess this Yang Yi is legit. But I still find it troubling that his guy will abuse his friendship with Yao to sell newspaper story.

Yao got to learn not to be too trustful in the future.

What is the possibility that the interview did take place but this guy manufacture some of the more juicy part?

The funny thing is that when I read the Chinese board, I don't feel any uncomfortable at all with his interview. But I do when read the English translation on this board. This is not a knock on the translations; I think those guys did a great job.

Do any of you Chinese readers have the similar feeling? I guess it has more to do with the perception of Yao's image portrayed in two different environments!

    Daoshi,

Don't really understand what you mean by that. I am very interested in your insight.

Maybe you mean the story is just like two friends playing with each other and don't mean anything by it. But still, don't you think somebody else's feeling might get hurt?

actually Yao is known to be cocky amongst Chinese fans. i believe once he is comfortable with the American media and can speak English fluently you'll hear him say similar things to what he said to this Yang dude.

What I really meant was that I got the different feeling when I read the same interview in different environments, Chinese BBS, and English BBS. I don't know why, but my guess is that on Chinese board, Yao's tone from the interview matches what Chinese fans' perception of him since his CBA days, confident, even cocky; but on this board, most people's perception of Yao is different, so that tone contradicts to his image in people's mind, or my mind, humble, even shy.

Do any of you see the hypocracy in here? Francis takes a shot at a couple of espn reporters and all the Yao fans start talking about how immature he is and bashing him. Yao takes shots at his teammates and everyone says how funny he is. What was funny about him calling out Griffin? How does this help team chemistry? What is worse calling out some reporters or your teammates through reporters?

So Yao thinks Eddie can't pass and is a subpar defender. :(

Did he talk to Eddie about this? He shouldn't talk bad about someone behind his back, especially if it's in a conversation with a reporter (albeit a Chinese reporter and a friend of his).

i dont care what tongue it is spoken in but if you trust a reporter you are asking for trouble... when the team has issues it needs to stay "within the family" or in other words nobody outside the team knows about it because it can blow up in your face. if yao has issues about EG i have no problem with that as long as yao lets EG or any other person on the teamknow about it... and vise versa.

i said it before and it still goes, having yao talk behind another persons back is not good for the team and i know yao wants to be a team guy. so please yao be a team guy on and off the court.

yao is a rookie, maybe this is just a rookie mistake???? or at least im hoping...

Yao still does not understand Political Correctness. He is maybe naive in the sense that he has been protected well by his family even today.

The difference between the "Chinese" Yao and the "English" Yao is probably a reflection of the difference between the US media perception and the real Yao. Remember, Yao did most of his English interviews with Collin Pine. So his words are more carefully delibered then further filtered by Pine. I know I like to read the interviews done by the Chinese jounralists, whom Yao is more at ease with, to learn about the more personal Yao. Yeah, Yao is no saint. He can take shot at Eddie.

i would love to read more about what yao has to say... but to say he has a right to punk a fellow team mate is not a good team mate, this causes problems with the players and caoches and the media will have a hayday so that will take away from focus... its an ugly spiral that has broken up team before.. i dont want it to break up the rockets

i know he doesnt understand that all he is right now is a rookie, a dam good one who i think will be rookie of the year... but he is just a rookie this season, thats how i see it and he should not get a big because he is the best player out of china, and soon to be the best center in the league... yao be yourself, and be humble
