Yes he is slow jumping for tip balls and I dont think the refs throw the ball high enough for Yao. Which is why he loses like 70% of tip balls.
But if you can jump quick, it shouldn't matter. He needs to work on this. They guy already has one advagtage. He's 7'5".

Schedule of Chinese NT's warmup games: vs US Pro team*: 23/7, 25/7, 27/7, 29/7 vs Melbourne Tigers team: 6/8, 8/8, 10/8, 12/8 * That team is coached by Bob Hill and consist of players like Leon Smith, David Harrison and Olden Polynice. I will try to go to at least one of those games. Links: http://sports.sina.com.cn/k/2003-07-14/1748501241.shtml http://sports.sina.com.cn/s/2003-07-11/1232497422.shtml
OK, didn't want to start a new thread. But I was just looking at the Spurs Summer League roster and Mengke Bateer is on it. Obviously Bateer is one of China's best players. So why is Bateer able to skip these Asian games and Yao isn't?
Bateer needs the summer league to get a new contract. He applied for the delay of return and it was accepted. He just misses the practice and those warmup games. He reportedly will return for the Asian Championships.
A number of known names on that roster, like Jerald Honeycutt, leon Smith, Ivano Newbill, Randy Livingston, Olden Polynice, Byron Mouton and coached by Bob Hill. Do our Far East friends have link to these games? Thanks The compeition Yao is facing in these matches may not be less than that in the summer league.
So is this specifically because he is fishing for a new contract? Meaning next year he won't be able to do this? I would have really liked it if Yao could have gotten this same treatment to play in our summer league games and practices and then go back to China to prepare for their tournament.
It doesn't really matter. The most important thing for Yao is to build up his stamina and increase upper body strength. I don't care where he does it.
What about Rockets release Yao at the end of next season. In that case, Yao will have a legitimate resaon (like Bateer) to stay here for the summer league games in order to fight for a contract in the uncoming season. After the summer league games, we will then sign Yao back right at the start of the training camp. In that case, Yao will be here all summer for the summer league games and the full training camp. Is it a brilliant idea? I know there must be a lot of contract and legal issues involved though. BUt that may be the only way we can have Yao here for the whole summer to work out his games.
stopid idea. you will ruin Yao's life. and Yao does need a summer league games. he need work on his upbody.
Thank you for saying the post is stopid (Stupid?). I am sure yours is the post of the year. Who is your nominee anyway? My post was simply a response to some fellow posters who hope that Yao could stay in here for the summer league games and the summer camp. That Bateer situaion gave me a hint. So I just want to see if it can work for Yao as well. I have also disclosed that I am not a legal expert so I dont know if there would be contractual or legal issues involved. But still, it's just an idea for discussion. Lee, By calling other people's post stopid (stupid?), You better back yourself up by making a few brilliant posts in the next few days. I will definitely keep an eyes on every post which you make from now on. I hope they are all intelligent and not 'stopid' (stupid?). And I am also readyto give my honest reply to them too. Can't wait. Lastly, it's "he needs work on his upperbody". chill
Tolbert usually makes stupid comments, but this one actually makes some sense. The current jump ball rules are totally flawed.
Iol...what happened was Bill Walton kept complaining about the referees not throwing the ball high enough for Yao Ming. Then Tom made the joke to throw down the ball from the roof...it was a funny exchange between Tom and Walton.
