Yes it's really sad for people who holds grudge against China as an ethnic Chinese to jump on China when she's down. I'm gonna take a walk outside now to end this feeling of emptiness.
Ok, I think I'll drop this argument for now as well. But the drug dealing argument is a poor example. Stealing/Killing/drug dealing/creating chaos in general infringes on other peoples freedom and that is why those things are against the law. If someone offers you 50k to work at one company and another offers you 70k, and perhaps another offers you 55k + benefits etc.. you have to weigh those things. Choosing between jobs is not part of social responsibilty. Wang had to make a choice like that, everyone does. (er.. well most people)
I m not pro or anti Wang. But I m anti all these communist bureaucrats. If you deem Wang's response so far is unacceptable, that's still open to debate. People sees differently, it's always half empty or half full. We werent in Wang's shoes. We werent brought up over there. Not all people over there like to support communism, or their brand of "social capitalism", or simpily the way things are run there. We Americans do appreciate the freedom we have here. To most of us, I believe, this is exploitation. Each of those bureaucrats want a piece of SOMEONE else pie. A slave contract is also a contract. It was legal during the darkest time in America. It still didnt make it right. Being rich, on a relative sense, doesnt exempt you from being exploited financially or emotionally. Many workers in the developed countries are being exploited even though, relatively speaking, they might be doing quite well comparing to some other people living in those poorest nations of the world. If Yao is not allowed to play in the NBA, which I dont think likely, the fault lies totally in those communist Chinese. Wang is an excuse and only a reflection and exposure of their behavior. How could Wang be the main culprit here, if the final decision is within the hand of these people. Shouldnt the wisdom, or rather arrogance of so many outweight that of Wang. By the way, if everything goes well, I m sure with all the profits they make on Yao, Wang and Bateer, there are plenty of toothbrushes to go around for them to ripe off the next Yao Ming in China.
All you guys forget so easily!!! Cast your minds back to the week prior to the Draft! Remember now! It looked like the Sharks and CBA were holding onto the paperwork, till the last second! They were trying to show that 'THEY' were in control and no one else! Its a matter of a power play, a macho kind of thing! I got what you want and you will only will get it when I (we)say so. So Yao Ming is being used in a typical Chinese demonstration of power. Wang is the reason used to cover up the real 'melodrama' thats going on. Chinese live all over this world and it doesn't matter where, they will always be Chinese, I can assure you of this! It looks like Goldberg didn't get a definite date for the signing, when he got the agreement in China, only that Yao Ming would come at the end of the Asian Games. So don't be too upset at the CBA or China, they are only being their natural selves, which we must understand is quite different from our way of thinking and understanding.
As a sign of goodwill, when Yao is finally released to play over here, toothbrushes should be exchanged at the signing CEREMONY. Since symbolic gesture is so much of their way of doing things over there.
Panda, You said this situation is Wang's fault. I think that is bullsh!t. I'm tired of people blaming the failure of Chinese Basketall Official's to give tgo ahead on releasing Yao's FIBA player license on Wang. It is not the fault of an NBA free agent. Wang can do whatever he wants. China has written agreements with the Rockets to release Ming. The lawyer on the Rockets (and I believe the General Manager, if not the owner) are on record saying that they were told Yao would sign during his stay here at the World Championship. That did not happen. From my standpoint, that's a slimy lie. Sugarcoat it all you want, and blame it on an innocent free agent to make you feel better...but Yao is a pawn right now. There is no denying that. He is a pawn for stupid Chinese Basketball officials who have no clue that they can't make the demands on Stern that they think. Stern does not have the power to punish Wang or give them anymore assurance that any player will play. The Player's Union is just as powerful as Stern when it comes to player contracts, fines, and suspensions. They won't release Yao for reasons outside of any agreement they've put in writing, and largely, anything Stern can do. That is not Wang's fault...and I call that holding Yao's Player License hostage to negotiations.
Cry me a river. The biggest victims aren't you and your national pride. The biggest victims will be the Rockets players, coaches and true blue Rockets fans who will lose their #1 pick and 10 yrs of rebuilding it will take to get that back. unless we get Lebron James. This is just a game and the life of two individuals. The players in the game are the biggest victims. And the Rockets and NBA fans here in Houston who pay for this game that is attracting Yao and Wang are just as much sport fans victims as you. We want to live vicarious through the success of Yao, and pee on ourselves with wild excitement to his beautiful turnaround jumper, just as much as you. Man, that's some amazing histrionics there to say Chinese BBall fans are the biggest victims. It is just a game to you and me. But to Steve Francis and Rudy Tomjanovich, it is a career. They have more to lose than you. And Wang has more to lose as a Free Agent who doesn't get signed because he has a record of not showing up for all games, than your National Team has to lose in getting 11th place instead of 12th. Don't overplay your "woe's me, I'm from China and Yao is a symbol of our success." You are slamming Wang unjustly from the eyes of our the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Player's Union concept of individual will of a free agent. In the opinion of the NBA, Wang is allowed to do what he wants. Deal with it. Tell your bbal officials to deal with it. This has nothing to do with Yao. Blaming Wang is a convenient excuse and nothing more.
Heypartner, You are one of the most biased posters on thie board. Never mind you are also one of the most emothional one. I have to agree with Panda completely that the situation is Wang's fault. CBA promised taht Yao will get its clearance and I still expect that it will happen after the Asian Games. Your quatlifier that "the failure of Chinese Basketall Official's to give tgo ahead on releasing Yao's FIBA player license " is indeed bullsh!t if I allow myself to use one of your favorite word. No one is able to provide a link claiming officially that CBA will not issue a clearance. Why the heck everyone is jumping the bandwagen? Maybe that is unique to Texasn's hospitality?? I have seen reports (probably from Houston Chronicle) that Rockets expect to sign Yao Ming during the WBC. I can understand that living in Texas, you probably fully trust the paper. For me, I will never trust a local paper. I have never seen any impact paper or news agency (New York Times, or China's offical Xinhua Agency) made such claims to make me worry about the whole situation. My assumption would be that CBA, Eric Zhang and Rockets talked about that possibility and nothing was agreed on paper. Rockets personnel then "leaked" to the press. In summary, I expect that Yao Ming will join Rockets after the Asian Games. Heypartner, you better learn not to be a crying baby to call other people liers before you have the "FULL EVIDENCE."
Once Ming signs with the Rockets he is over here, so how can China bring him back any time they want? China, or particularly the people involved in basketball in China, would get MASSIVE heat and serious trouble if htey tried to bring him back so I seriously doubt this would pop up again. And the Chinese government can't force him to sign with the Knicks that's ridiculous. All of this conspiracy stuff is ridiculous.
How would you expect people to re-act!? Ming was supposed to sign his contract this week, all of a sudden we get word that the CBA says "No, he can't sign it today, we might let him after the Asian" games. What's to stop them from then saying "No we won't let him sign it after the game, maybe 2 months from now" and then drag it on and on? Nobody has been able to provide a link saying the CBA would not issue it, but is there a link saying that they would definitely issue it? My assumption would be that CBA, Eric Zhang and Rockets talked about that possibility and nothing was agreed on paper. Rockets personnel then "leaked" to the press. This is what I don't get, you're jumping on people for making the assumption that the CBA is yanking our chain, then YOU make the assumption they're not. I'm not ripping you, but this is why people are getting worried. There isn't a link saying they wouldn't issue clearance, but there isn't a link saying that they definitely WOULD issue a clearance. Personally I think it's a moot point and he will get clearance, but until this we have to deal with trolls and fans of other teams coming over here whining that we burned a draft pick, and all of this garbage.
fwang, Being a cry baby is blaming Wang's free will for your unhappiness. Let me ask you: What Would Yao Do? Do you think he blames Wang? Do you think he will quit his career if not released and blame it all on Wang??
HEYPARTNER:- Goldberg should have known better!! to have someone say..he can be signed when he is over here in the USA, they say OK and nothing was firmed up and no date set in WRITING. The Rox should have been more precise in their negotiations, they only had a loose agreement on the time. IMHO I don't blame Wang Zhi Zhi , but I do blame the Wang Zhi Zhi Situation, that is I feel a snake has been at work in the grass and his name is Mark. The Mavs made a commitment to the CBA about Wang Zhi Zhi and the CBA is using this problem to act MACHO about Yao Ming.We will get Yao Ming when they are ready to let us have him , not one second earlier.

Originally posted by fwang I have seen reports (probably from Houston Chronicle) that Rockets expect to sign Yao Ming during the WBC. I can understand that living in Texas, you probably fully trust the paper.
How hard is it for you to understand that I was talking about quotes ... not reports ... but quotes from the Rockets owner and Legal Council. Alright, you can cut the bashing Texas crap if you expect to be a longtime, respected member of a Rocket's board. I have never bashed your country, Shanghai or anything. You are assuming that I did merely because I said you are bullsh!t for blaming things on the free will of Wang ZhiZhi. wake up!! yetti, Goldberg knowing better or not is not my point. My only point is blaming this on Wang is a cop-out from upset Chinese fans. It is JUST a game. It is Wang's livelihood. Leave him alone.
Chron reported Goldberg sent another letter to the head of the Chinese league... billable hours bud, billable hours
Yetti, I know you were agreeing. And I was agreeing with you. I actually wrote "I agree" first, but then wanted to point out that my point is not really about what Goldberg was told or not.
Originally posted by Yetti The Mavs made a commitment to the CBA about Wang Zhi Zhi and the CBA is using this problem to act MACHO about Yao Ming.We will get Yao Ming when they are ready to let us have him , not one second earlier. [/B]
No, the Mavericks do not have a commitment. Let's get the facts straight. Wang is not a Maverick. Wang is a free agent. He belongs to no team. He belongs to whatever he wants to do. Do you appreciate the fact that Wang might be unemployable in the NBA, right now, because of all the unanswered questions about his availability. btw: I like the fact you said "We will get Yao Ming." "We" is the correct pronoun in this context. "We" are all Rockets Fans. "We" all want to live in Texas and eat Behad's BBS. "We" all want to go to Smeggy's Honeymoon suite game. "We" are Rockets fans. "We" love Yao Ming, and "We" all believe that Texas is the best country in the world.
Read my post completely and then responde, please. I have not seen CREDIBLE REPORTS that CBA had promised Rockets that Yao Ming is to sign the contract this week and you are still talking about "Ming was supposed to sign his contract this week.." sigh!!! Let me repeat "Houston Chronicle" does not count. Nor are any sports junkies, like Southern Sports or Shanghai Morning News in China. By now, we should all have been smart enough to know that sports writtters love to spread "rumors" intentionally or unintentionally. However, I have seen reports from credible sources (namely, the offical XinHua News Agency) that CBA had promised Rockets in writing that Yao Ming will get its clearance letter (Some one plz provide the link and may have to dig deeper to the archives of XinHua English Service). That is why I am confident it will happen. Just relax and act as if you are an expetant mother. Things will work out fine at the end.
