Wind&Sea, I trust you in that Ming will never defect. But after seeing him going through all this, I expect Yao Ming to apply for the Green Card as soon as he joins Rockets. And I won't be surprised if he choose to become an American citizen once he is eligible (do we call this "defect", btw?), even though Yao Ming has been saying the "right" thing all along.

Anyways, this delay really sucks. I just hope that Yao Ming won't have a career ending injury during the Asian Games.

That would be amazing and almost unbelievable if Ming chose to retire if he didn't get to play in the NBA. He has shown himself to be a patriotic man who has put his country before everything else.
He wants to be the best basketball player that he can be by playing in the NBA and thus becoming a greater asset for China.

Yao should suddenly suffer some sort of non-serious injury just prior to these Asian Games....you know like a sprained ankle or sore back....something that would unfortunately prevent him from being able to compete for the Chinese National team ;)

I am not worried much. Without a contract the Chinese will use him carefully in the Asian games. They don't want something to hapen to him and to lose the 50% of the guaranteed money.

As far as I understand, they want the teams where their NBA players play to make sure the players go to the China when called upon.

So the Rockets have been lying this entire time about the ease of acquiring Ming. Sweet. Coverups galore.

windandsea, your government realizes that the Rockets have no power in the Taiwan situation, do they not? I would hate for this thing to be drug out until 2005 because of another ****ing misunderstanding.

Whoever say that Yao will instantly defect does not know the strong bondage between a Chinese man and the Chinese culture...

China had a glorious past and Chinese ppl are very proud of this...

Yao will never in almost all circumstances abandon his Chinese nationality, unless he will get shot if returning to China...

And you can speak for all the 1.3 billion Chinese on this? It doesn't seem that the "glorious past" of China had Wang Zhizhi running back there.

Just to clear up things: IF you read between the lines, Li yaoming(shark manager) says he doesn't know for sure. It's just his speculation that MIng will be sign after Asian games and it's because of the Wang problem. Frankly, Sharks knows no better, the matter is out of their hands now. News from China can be Dicy. Just try to make this point.

Here's a direct quote from that article by Li:
"The signing of Ming will probablly after the October (I would say), as to the reason, should still be due to that Wang Zhizhi incident".

Not yet, for something this big it needs to be defended in encyclopaedia length. Still working on it. :D

Shanghai Sharks GM Liyaoming is in no position to announce such things, his words can't be taken at face value. I'm wondering why the reporter doesn't interview the one who's really in charge, such as the Basketball Administration Center's director Shing Lan Cheng(rough translation). I guess we'll wait and see, but I'm not worried about Yao's signing, at most China just wants to make sure that Yao plays for the NT in the future. No way they back out of the deal.

Wang ZhiZhi sure helped Yao Ming and the Rockets a lot.

All these white tooth don't look good on you. ;) Try to be the one laugh at last. This news isn't much of substantiation, as I just pointed out. Frankly, you don't have much to gain even it is the case, as a Chinese and a Rocket fan.

The matter of fact is Yao Ming has not signed yet, on middle of September as a #1 draft and Rockets/NBA/Fans are held hostage. Can you see that?
If you want to be ridiculously content with CBA's behavior, feel free to do so. Just wish you won't wait too long to laugh at last.

You are sadly wrong. But let's don't debate on that here.

    hostage?

Content? No. But we'll see the end result soon, I guess.

So you are saying you do have a lot to gain if Ming won't be signed in time?
Yeh, I see you jumpy at a vague news, not hesitate to claim your little personal triumph. I won't laugh that hard if Ming has trouble to sign with Rocket in time, that's for sure.

Now don't say anything but I told you so!! Clutch even banned my Thread for reasons unknown to me! I know the possible mind set of the oriental in these circumstances and was prepared for it! The Rox have been too innocently trusting in such a delicate matter. I just hope that the Sharks and the CBA are caught in between a rock and a hard place and can be pressured into a release.

Let's all remember here that the Chinese media is notorious for jumping to conclusions and wildly speculating. Let's let this run its course, when the US media starts reporting that something like this is true, then I'll believe it. Until then, let's not start planning how to spend Yao Ming's salary on Rashard Lewis just yet.

Just like eddie griffin wasn't in Live2002, b/c of not signing by a certain date, the same will be true for Ming, unless Sega has different rules ... SIGN MING!!!

This is a wise post. They are likely using Yao to threat Wang in NBA. Not the opposite.
But if I was New Yourk, I will sign Wang directly, give him law support for staying in US, declare Wang's quit from NT for ever..
    See what happens next? :D
