Politician's denial--change the subject and dance around the question. Can you really blame Yao though? What's he supposed to say?

Honestly I doubt that Yao would air McGrady out like that. As an Asian American I think this would contradict some cultural values..strictly being respectful to your peers and especially those who have helped you (and I'd agree that TMac has been a key person that formulated Yao as a basketball player)

He ducked the question TWICE. The first time he pretends not to know who David Aldridge is and insists that he never spoke with him. Then instead of saying that he and Tracy are close, he says that the team has a good locker room and that everyone is close. Wow.

I wouldn't be suprised if McGrady did say those things, We are talking about a guy who went pro straight out of High School. His lack of diplomacy and professionalism is really standing out like a pair of dogs nut sacks.

In other words, there was probably at least one argument between Yao and T-Mac, but this stuff is overblown. I think Yao was genuinely surprised that someone would think he actually wants T-Mac out of Houston. "We have a very good locker room" sounds to me like "yeah we've had a quarrel or two in here, so what?"

Agreed. Normally Yao would categorily deny this.

I dunno, my experience is that this stuff usually gets covered up, hush hush style. When it finally breaks out into the public eye it's because it's become such a huge issue that no one can ignore it.

Also, typically the stuff you see in the media is only the tip of the iceberg.

    uhh what?

normally yao would make a joke about it if it's ridiculous, which is exactly what he did.

    "WHO IS THAT GUY?"

LOL.that made my day.Yao's smart and he knows there's no need to answer the question directly just dancing around it and made fun of it.Good one.

It turned out that someone who's considered creditable seemed to make the story out of nothing.Hard to make a living?

People need to remember that this is the 2nd time we've heard about the two not getting along one way or the other this season....so there could be something to it.

Either way...I expect with the expring 20+million Tmac has and if he comes back and does flash his past ability we could get something good for him next season.

Maybe he don't know him, maybe he have seen his face but don't recall his name. For him is maybe is just another reporter with an American name.

And what he said is that he should call him if he wants to know if he wants T-Mac out. And that what David should have done, instead of reported something so critical, he should call Yao first at least to get his opinion.

Is easy for reporter to say anything when the ask their source is always somebody close who name can't be revealed.

Of course Yao isn't going to come out and admit it even if he did say it behind closed doors.

At this point it is your choice whether you believe it or not.

    Quick transcription:

R: David Aldridge reported that you and Tracy are not talking. Is there truth to that?

Y: Uh, we just talked today.

R: He also reported that you wanted Tracy out of Houston on NBA.com.

    Y: Who is that guy?

    R: David Aldridge, the reporter.

    Y: (pause) He called me?

R: He said there's a source close to the team that said it.

Y: He didn't ask me. I know where he gets this from (laughs).

R: So you and Tracy are okay?

Y: See, we have a very good locker room here. Everybody('s) close.

    My comments:

    1) Why would you answer that question "He called me?" That seems a wee bit suspicious.

    2) Instead of saying "T-Mac and I are close" Yao turns the question to generalities--they have a good locker room and everybody's close.

    Something's going on.

If there's one problem McGrady has always had, it has been his apparent total inability to be discreet with his words. He just says what he feels/what's on his mind, and often his mouth creates more problems than it's worth. How many times have fans on this board jumped all over McGrady after he says something like "it's on me" or "I just wanted to put my will on the game" and so on?

I can see a situation in which T-Mac is telling Yao after one of his recent bad performances to be more assertive and dunk the ball etc. as usual, and then an argument breaks out as frustrations over the "I'm playing today, I'm not playing tomorrow" saga boil over. Yao says something, a couple of other teammates say something to the effect of T-Mac not having any right to tell Yao that given his own situation. This is what happens in a frustrated locker room. Of course, word gets out that T-Mac caused a locker room fight, etc. etc. and tid bits leak out, and reporters get all excited about some juicy scoop.

Bad decisions were made at the beginning of the season. Being in the situation he was in, T-Mac ought to have ignored the outside criticism and just completed his rehab routine properly. Adelman shouldn't have kept throwing him out there when it was obvious he wasn't his normal self instead of clinging to the "he still helps the team" out there ... it only became obvious to Adelman when the situation started to get out of control. They should've refused when he came up with the let's try one half of back to backs idea. It was a dumb idea, and it just turned out bad for everyone involved. Hopefully everybody can get it right this time. It looks like the rest of the team is trying to step up. McGrady just needs to hold up his part of the bargain this time. It certainly looks like if he fails to, we'll be at that dreaded "irreconciliable differences" point.

he didnt crack no joke? he said "where did he get that from" because he knew the reporter had no answer for that and hoped it would end there.......when pressed he said "we have a tight lockeroom" obviously mcgrady isnt a part of that.
