Oh well, we do treat all people equally, at least try to, in this country.

    Helluva idea.

If we can get an exact date from the Rox or something...It would be cool to get a bunch of ppl out there to welcome him to town.

calling Tim..Tim to the white phone...

    Uh..thought guys?

I'd be very surprised if the Rocks didn't organize something. At the least, I'd bet they'd rally the Houston Asian American community to get a crowd at the airport. CC.Netters should get in on the action. But how does that work these days with post 9/11 restrictions?

We're currently working with Yao's camp on the whole plan for his arrival. They've expressed an interest in getting him exposed to Houstonians as soon as possible, just like we have -- we're also both trying to be conscious of how exhausted Yao Ming might be by the time he actually gets over here.

The exact date of his arrival isn't final yet, so we probably won't be able to finalize plans until that gets firmed up.

But, yes, as Rockets2K said ... "it would be cool to get a bunch of ppl out there to welcome him to town." It's what we're aiming for.

Don’t mean to be impolite, but what exact role Tim has with Rockets? I checked the Rockets Houston preseason handbook (this one that is downloadable from Rockets.com) but couldn’t find his name anywhere on the book.

Tim is the VP of marketing. He's responsible for getting fans into the seats.

Rumor has it that there was a version of that guide that listed TroyBaros as "Steve Francis's official fluffer", but it got edited out...

(sorry...couldn't resist a TroyBaros jab...where did he go, anyways?)

Sane:- Don't you remember 9/11 in New York. The Terrorists were Arabs. We must be very protective of our American people of all cultures, from potential Terrorists.

From my understanding, Yao Ming now is applying a working visa. This kind of visa needs the applicants to provide the job offering or something like that. That is the reason Ming couldn't apply visa until he got the "job" (contract) fron Rockets. Just my guess.

Great point. Makes perfect sense. You can only get a VISA if you are going to work, not just visiting.

NOt exactly. You can get a 'visit' visa in that case.

Possibly, the officer for visa examinar is a Rockets fan. So Ming's visa don't even need one week, maybe just one day. So Yao could come before 20th.

Of course it would be cool, but is it what Ming would like? Of course, sooner or later he has to get used to that kind of stuff and start to appreciate it - maybe he already has??

my cousin has studied in US for 7 years, and this will be his last yr of college, he came back to China during the summer, and got rejected 3 times for applying a student Visa..it is hard to get US visa nowadays. but come on, as long as the people who work at embassy is not New Yorker, Yao should be getting his visa the same day he applys :D
