Yao plays less minutes this season. Rocekts is dead last in offensive rebounding, the only team with single digit per game. You missed my point. I'm not saying Yao can make up our PF's poor rebounding. But without Yao under the basket, it would be even worse. I believe JVG had no choice. The number of Yao's 0.2 more rebounds doesn't show all the story. Last year, opponents need to block out Cato and Yao, this year they only need to do that to Yao. Also keep in mind that Yao got to the line 5.44 times per game last year, 6.97 this year, an increase of 28%, it's more or less made up for Yao's lack of outside shooting. I don't mind JVG mix it up a little bit more, and Yao should shoot jumpers when he's open, but playing closer to the rim isn't that bad an idea even though it's against Yao's strength at this moment, make him more tiresome. Yao just need to play through it and master it. It's going to be good for him and Rockets in a long run. Yao is changing his style, that maybe painful to watch, fans need to be patient.
Can not agree more. This year his teammates no longer to try to foul first to protect him. They hope he can d other team's Guards and Fowards. Look at last few games, after they cut in they just let them go. that is no good. His teammates have to share some responsiblity.
Yao Ming is going to be alright. I like what I saw in the last game. He seemed like he was about to crack at times, which i take as a good sign. Because as soon as he can unleash whatever he has pent up in him - instead of waiting for his gal to come to the states - the better off he will be. I think he made some breakthroughs last game. "Eye of the Tiger" - didn't work "You can do It" - that didn't work "Balls to Walls Yao!" - maybe that'll work. a good motto in repetition like that can have its charm. if the intent is right, it can effect the consciousness of the subject. i'm just saying...
The worse parts is here. Under JVG's system, when the shot is missed, everyone run back for defense. If yao grabbed a rebound lunckly, again they run to the other end. but there is only a butter finger yao on the offnse end. he turn the ball over, again..... A few times I saw this already. it is just painful.
Doc, I do understand where you are coming from and I somewhat agree. I would hate to see Yao go to another team and develops into the player we all knew he could be. But, here is my question.. How long is long enough? I live in Dallas and I see the pain and agony that they have went thru with Shawn Bradley. I would hate for this team to go thru the same thing. Personally I would love to get a new coach in here to work with Yao before we give him the Max... Personally I have a bad feeling about giving Yao the Max, I feel that the Rockets will regret that move. T_Man
Yao is a much better player than Shawn Bradley ever was. Most teams would love to have a center who averages 18/8/2 a night. At worst, Houston lets Yao go after next year (or this year if they exercise their option). They get nothing in return, but lose a player who seems to have worn out his welcome anyways. Since there will be several teams willing to max Yao, the Rockets can always do a sign-and-trade and get some good players in return. Maybe Yao for Chris Mihm and Lamar Odom. Unless you package him with Mo Taylor or Juwan Howard, a trade right now will get you very little. Bear in mind that Yao "only" makes 3-4 million a year right now (maybe Chris Mihm for Yao straight up?).
I think the problem (and this is a problem) with Yao is he almost never demonstrates a passion for the game. Why is Yao is playing in the NBA? The dude needs Tony Robbins to make an appearance before every game. That's the Vince Carter syndrome, and everyone saw what happened to the Raptors after Vince got the max. JVG isn't the type of coach who is a cheerleader like Rudy T. I've said before that when Steve left the team, Yao lost a guy who he drew a lot of his fire from. TMac provides fire for noone else except himself. With Steve, there was always the continual encouragement on the court. TMac does not do that, and I don't know if he needs to. That's not his duty.
He has whole world of passion for basketball, but he rarely shows it on his face or his body language, Tim Duncon seems have same personality as Yao. I compeletely disgree, i followed the Raptors for many years, Vince's fading is because of injuries, he was pretty successful in the raptors,as the only offence weapon in the raptors, he led the team one shot away to the East conference final, he was taking so much offence load on himself untill injuries happened at his both legs, nobody (except trolls) said he wasn't deserved his max contract, even now you go the raptors forums and say something about vince, most of the raptor fans will give you a good laugh. I agree, steve always show his passion on the court, but Yao and Tmac like keep theirs inside.
"Him not being here is going to be tough for me. I don't know what I'm going to wake up for." Did Yao say this after Steve left? It looks like he is asleep on the court. The best thing to happen for Yao would be for Cato to flagrant foul Yao, and have Steve dunk in Yao's face with a vengeance. Maybe that will wake Yao up.
Don't dream of those actions could bring some fire on Yao, No, No, definatly not tonight, it's Tmac's night, he would show orlando fans what super talented about. go for 100.
I think that you have to be wearing rose colored glasses not to be at the very least worried about what we have seen from Yao this season. For a guy who came into the L touted as the next big thing to go for a string a single digit scoring games is worrisome. Yao has got to find a way to be effective playing American basketball or else what is the point?
I just remember what happened after Brendan Haywood bodyslammed Yao last season. Man...Yao went off. Yao has to play for something. If he has to play to want revenge, then so be it. Yao has to have a reason to be out there on the court and just bring it. Complacency is a killer for the professional athlete.
Man thanks for showing the true meaning of Yao Hater. you really knows English is not the first language for all of us. you are for real man! my apologies to some of other ppl get labeled as Yao haters. and to ppl who have you on their ignore list. You are just as annoying as YOFs.
ISFJ Sports Profile ISFJs are Introverted left-brained SFs. They enjoy participating in sports, though they are not found frequently in professional circles. In athletics, they exercise great control over their gross motor movements. Their legs are their mainstay, their greatest source of strength. If ISFJs work at it, they can be leapers with excellent vertical jump. For example, the NBA’s Andrew Lang, Dale Davis, and P.J. Brown have been top notch shot blockers. Timid ISFJs normally show timidity and caution in athletics, just as they do in life. As they progress athletically, these factors become less of a problem, though something always to be faced. Three typological preferences contribute to ISFJs’ lack of aggressiveness: their Introversion is generally conserving energy, not expending it; their Feelings are seeking harmony, not contention; and their left-brained dominance (J) will not let them “jump in and ask questions later.” Sports that cause high levels of fear are unwelcomed by ISFJs. Young ISFJs do not like to face the hard throwing pitcher on the mound. They may step into the batter’s box, but they are not likely to crowd the plate. Yet, if they are unafraid of the pitcher, they are capable of hitting the ball hard, using their body to generate power. Defensively in baseball, they are reluctant to charge the ball or stick their nose down to snag a hard grounder. Basketball is a fun sport for ISFJs. They don’t have to worry about a hard ball smacking them in the face but can enjoy playing with a ball that is much less intimidating. Defensive Mentality Basketball is a sport that especially demonstrates the defensive talents of ISFJs. They play defense properly, using their strong, SF legs to keep the person they’re guarding from the basket. Yet they need to work hard at developing lateral quickness. ISFJs are unselfish players, looking for ways to complement their teammates. They feel they can do this best by playing good defense. If ISFJs begin basketball at an early age and with good coaching, they can develop a finely-tuned offensive game. Type Tips ISFJs need to be encouraged to be more aggressive in sports, particularly on the offensive end. They need to realize it is okay to make mistakes; blunders are part of the process of sports maturation. Even the greatest athletes have their periods of failure. ISFJs should become familiar with the mental section of this book. Learning to relax and alleviate fear is crucial to their athletic success. Like all dominant left-brained persons, ISFJs need to develop their spatial awareness. Ways to do this are mentioned throughout this book. If ISFJs can begin athletic activities at an early age, the more likely they are to succeed, not only by developing their motor skills but confidence and assertiveness as well. Parents and coaches need to remember that ISFJs respond and learn best when they are treated with sensitivity, commended for their efforts, and encouraged to keep trying. http://www.braintypes.com/carson.htm Carson Palmer is supposedly in this mode. ISFJ fits Yao to a tee.
Not really, that guy thinks Yao is an ENFP. http://www.braintypes.com/newsworthy/newsworthy19.htm FCAR / ENFP "Motivator" highly energetic; enthusiastic, charming, imaginative, improvisational; sees possibilities; spontaneous; easily bored with repetition; enjoys solving people’s problems; catalyst, marketer, language skilled. It doesn't fit Yao perfectly right now, but I think it does in his natural enviroment, AKA the CNT. I do believe we'll see that side of Yao one day.
Let me preface what I said by saying that Yao was indeed ENFP when looking at videos of him playing for the Chinese national team. This is why I think Yao has to have thousands of loud, cursing Chinese fans in the stands for him to be aggressive. He might have said he doesn't like that environment, but that is the environment where he will thrive. Combine a Rudy T aka master motivator with that, and I could see Yao being very aggressive and enthusiastic. It just might not be with the Rockets.
