Yao should sign w/ the Rockets for the vets minimum next season just cause. It would give us so much flexibility moving forward. That way if he's healthy, great... If not, they'll have the money to build a championship team w/o his contract being a financial burden. All these years of being hurt.. Not his fault of course, but come contract time we'll see how loyal to the Rockets he is... Depending on how much money he'll demand. If he doesn't get traded first.
You don't need a flame suit on because lot of people agree with you. What? I don't see how injury history is relevant to this argument.
I made a post over two weeks ago about how the rockets are playing us for fools.....for obvious reasons (mainly money).........I also knew that he would be out atleast 3 weeks , 2 weeks ago!! Bill reported it during a game and I didnt even bother questioning it because he is the last guy I would consider false in such a announcment/situation. He bleeds Rockets RED baby!.....................IT IS WRITTEN.
i don't think who we are playing was a relevant part of the decision. i think if he was able to play we would play him against whomever to get his conditioning started again.
I feel like if they re-sign him it needs to be at a considerably cheaper contract. The problem isn't so much that we can't count on Yao's health, it's that we can't but we do and we pay him 20 million dollars per season on top of that. If he were to make somewhere between 5-8 million per year and our whole team weren't built around him going forward, this wouldn't be an issue. So I have no problem with re-signing him so long as he re-signs at the right price and we no longer continue to plan this team's future around Yao Ming. It's sad though. I love Yao Ming and I wish he could have had a healthier career so he could have truly fulfilled his potential.
I don't know, I don't think the front office will let Yao walk w/o trying to work something out. Even at minimum salary, I fear his health will be a distraction not because of his role on the court, but because of who he is. My guess is that Yao will get 6-8mil/year on open market, and this is the last year Yao will be a Rocket, which I believe is the right thing to do for franchise to finally close this chapter of the book.
As a Chinese myself, I would've LOVED to see him succeed in this league and win a couple of titles. You want to see people who work hard get rewarded for their dedication and devotion to the game. But alas, I root for the Rockets first and foremost, and he is hindering the growth and development of the team and franchise.
it has nothing to do with doctors being incompetent...you can't pinpoint things like this...body takes time to heal, adapt, etc...Given that they want him to heal completely i'm not surprised they're pushing it. A lot of players will come back at only 80 or 90% from injuries like this because its not that serious, if healthy everywhere else, and they can just play that way until it heals (but sometimes we hear how they don't heal because of this and they have to sit out later again). Yao would probably have returned sooner from this if he didn't have a prior restriction. It's been just under a month, not a long time really. He'll probably need at least another week, but no more than 2 to get back to playing full contact.
They are getting us used to not having Yao on the team again….trying to let us down easy before the big announcement (out for the season or trade).
The Brooks injury looked really serious, Yao's wasn't nearly as egregious. Looking at the replay, I couldn't tell if Yao had re-injured his foot or trashed his knee. Now it looks like Brooks might come back before Yao does.
Thank god. ¡! Yao will be the best player of the team, this season. http://www.nba.com/rockets/video/2010/12/06/ZOOM0003MOV-1487542/index.html
I changed my mind, I wanted Yao to stay for around 4 million per year but now I hope he bolts for the Lakers or Miami just to show the majority of stupid ass fans on this website that GOOD BIGS ARE RARE and there is a reason why the Rockets are still praying for Yao to get healthy..
If Yao does not play Wednesday, I'm going to start questioning more seriously if they are actually going to trade him as an expiring. I can't hardly fathom us doing that, just can't hardly fathom it. But, if we hear any more rumblings about him being ready to go and the team holding him out, I'm gonna wonder. Yao's value on the open market. It would be very interesting to know what is going on behind the scenes with the team and Yao's financial people. It would be interesting to know if they discussed some sort of extension. Perhaps they have not. I just don't think you treat the franchise player like that, even if he has been injured as much as Yao has. Yao comes from another culture. I fully expect him to never complain or talk anything about the front office and how they are treating him. So, we'll probably never know. But with the CBA expiring this season and the league putting out the idea of making everyone take a paycut of about 1/3, I have to wonder where this leaves Yao. I have to wonder what his value is on the open market, what kind of contract could he get someone to give him? Is there a team out there that would sign Yao to a max extension if we traded him to them right now or before the deadline? If there is no team that would give him a max extension, then what kind of extension would they offer him? And if no team would offer him an extension, then what kind of deal is he going to get on the open market after the season under a new CBA? What team is going to be willing to offer a max contract to him then? (Likely none.) So, with that said, if the MLE is available under the new CBA, will a team offer Yao the MLE? And will Yao accept? The longer this thing keeps playing with Yao, the more questions I have about his future. Has he already indicated he is going to retire at the end of this season to the Rockets and they are viewing him as an expiring contract? The suspense is growing every day that he is not on the court. And it grows even more when I see pics that show Brooks and Bud in the gym last and Yao is not in there somewhere. He has been for years the hardest working player on this team, and one of the hardest working players in the NBA. Was the pic of Aaron and Bud just a one time deal or has it become a foregone conclusion behind closed doors that Yao is done? I've got a lot of questions about the situation and as you can see, they are growing every day.
