I guess the op thought he was breaking news. I like yao as a players and seems to be a good person, by the team can't try to be 2 ways. I know DD like to use the old kareem as a example, but kareem at 42 still ran the floor better than Yao. I do believe in the greyhound theory, but yao is going to be slower than before and the team would have played an entire season without him.

Not the max. I could see some desperate team offering something close to it, but there's no way I could see them offering the max next summer, after a year off due to a serious injury, so I don't see him opting out.

He will have to do whatever CNT tells him to do,after he is fit to play.

There is truth in what you say,he will definitely have a hard time reintegrating with the team. The team might be better having him coming off the bench.

I like Yao a lot despite his shortcomings, and wish him a lot of success but his player option is delaying the inevitable. McGrady has been a disappointment and can't cut it either, even if he makes a comeback. He will be playing for a contract, which is not going to help us in the long run. Les and DM need to rebuild,by looking for deals for Shane and Luis.
OKC is doing the right thing, the Rockets aren't IMO.

Whether you like it or not, Les is NOT going to get rid of both Yao and T-Mac. That's basically recipe for at least 2+ years of lottery and crappy attendance. And if Les had to choose between T-Mac and Yao, it's not hard to figure out that Yao will be the one staying. This isn't a video game where you can mess around with a team however you like, because each season is just minutes worth of simulation.

And Yao is not going to be playing for the national team anymore. He has quit.

That was my first thought when I saw the "I need to slow down" thing. Now, I know that has to happen, knew it would be coming, but man, I don't feel comfortable having a player around that has to "slow down". Just not encouraging...may be a knee-jerk reaction here...

    You guys crack me up...

Some team will sign Yao to the Max and it will be us. He averages almost 20/10, He brings in China dollars, and he is one of the hardest working player in this league.

As a Rocket fan, I appreciate his work ethic for this team and I won't trash him, when he is betting his ability to walk in the future on trying to win for the Rockets.

You can hate the slow, butter finger guy but if anybody deserves to retire as a Rocket it's Yao Ming. I used to bash him none stop. But I realize the simple truth he ain't going away unless he averages 3pts and 4 rebounds. He may not deserve Max but I don't see Lebron, Wade or any other Elite player coming to the Rockets. Ride the 7'6 man till he is done.

God its frustrating to waste an entire season because of a damned foot. But I'd rather see him play for us the next 4 to 5 seasons at a high level than risk a career ending surgery. His other foot better not give out on him though. I hope they X-ray or MRI or whatever they do bi-daily when he returns. I also expect supreme, Dwight Howard upper body strength without any weight gain. Greg Oden already made that mistake. He should also be up around 95% free throw shooting once he can walk again. :p

    Easier said than done unfortunately.

The Rockets better not offer the max (or even close to it). Let some other team gamble, the Rockets have done it for several years now and it was a loss each time.

I don't understand how Adelman would be able to really implement his open system for a season, and heck, likely produce good results, and then just go back to the halfcourt, inside-out attack once Yao returns.

I think if Adelman overachieves with his style this year, the Rockets will find some way to move on without Yao.
