Many people have to stand a couple of hours for waiting the interview at the USA embassy. I hope Ming didn't wait that long because his ankle was injuried.

BTW, I went to the US embassy three times to get my visa, the first time to investigate, and was rejected once......

Ming will probably have a little culture shock! I guess that was the whole purpose of having her Mom arrived in Houston a week a head.

    You were joking right?

Is Ming gonna track me down and beat the crap outta me if I dont call him what he wants?

    :D

I'll stick with calling him whatever nick-name that comes to mind like our other players for example (mooch, Tmo, MoT). One of the first things Ming will learn is the Cultural change from China and here in Texas. I'm really excited about getting him here and cheering for him, but he's not getting any special privilages like formal name calling from me. Sorry dude. :(

This sum-up meeting thing is maddening if it's true it delayed Yao's departure. Two days even at this late date is meaningful for Yao and the Rockets. I understand Yao's "duty" to play for the NT and the Rockets "committment" to get Yao back to China for these events. But this is the kind of stuff that's getting me grief from my friends, most of whom are Rocket fans about Yao Ming: what else is China going to want? Delaying Yao's departure because of this meeting is ridiculous. Yao's deep self-examination regarding the failings of the Chinese NT is ludicrous. And that stuff about Wang Fei not being told about his father's death is just shameful.

Rockets Truth:- I wasnt kidding! The Chinese are sensitive about this sort of thing, I am sure that nothing will be done, but WE will be looked down upon as insulting people or organisation, when we should have known better! I was not of course refering to nick names. I think it would be great if he had a nick name and if it was acceptable we could just call him that, instead of Yao Ming, and do away with trying to remember to do the correct thing!!

    Yetti,
I don't think calling him Ming Yao is "impolite". That's the American way to put the first name ahead of the last name. Most Chinese students are being called this way when they study at USA. Only Mr. Ming is totally uncorrect, IMO.

NBA: China finally clears 7'5 Yao Ming

HOUSTON - Yao Ming is closer to joining the Houston Rockets after receiving his visa from the Chinese government and signing allegiance to his country's basketball association.

Now that the document from the China Basketball League has been signed, Yao just needs to obtain final clearance from FIBA -- the international governing body of the sport -- to travel to the Rockets' camp, his agent told Houston station KRIV-TV on Wednesday.

"This is one of the things the CBA needed to issue its clearance to FIBA stating Yao is no longer under contractual obligation to any Chinese team, and is free to sign with the NBA," agent Erik Zhang said.

Signing allegiance to the CBA allows China to bring back its 7-foot-5 star for international tournaments.

Zhang said Yao has a visa given to Chinese citizens with special talents.

Yao, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, had 23 points and 22 rebounds in the Asian Games championship, but South Korea won the gold medal by defeating China 102-100 in overtime.

The Rockets play five exhibitions before opening the regular season Oct. 30 at Indiana.

I found the following piece at Sina's basketball BBS. It seems that Yao Ming has already bought the ticket of 21st since his dad was trying to buy a coach class ticket of the same date to no avail. Interestingly, his dad hesitated in coming to Houston at first. The reason? He has a lot of work at hands... also expense is too high and Yao Ming's money doesn't come easy (in his own words). What a humble dad!
