Yes you are right. The latest breaking news is Ming has been traded to the Knicks for Felton Spencer. What a great day. We are one step closer to a championship.

NBA top pick receives medical attention, vows to win Asian gold

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BUSAN, Sept. 29 (Xinhuanet,by Wang Jingyu ) -- Whether Yao Ming gets the green light to start his NBA career or not, the 2002 NBA draft top pick will strive to win the Asian Games basketball gold medal for his country.

"Whether I goes to the NBA or not, I will try to win the gold at the Asian Games," the 2.26-meter Yao told Xinhua on Sunday. "I will win for my motherland."

Yao is likely to get the nod from the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) to play in the NBA after the Busan Asian Games.

"Things concerning Yao's playing in the NBA will be made clear after the Asian Games," said Li Furong, deputy chef-de-mission of China's Asian Games delegation Sunday morning.

Yao, who was picked by the Houston Rockets in June's NBA Draft, has yet to sign his NBA contract.

Yao was accidentally knocked down by teammate Chen Ke in Sunday's training session. Although Yao lay on the floor for a few seconds as teammates gathered around in scare, it turned out to benothing serious.

"It's no big deal," said Yao, who resumed training after receiving basic medical attention. The 22-year-old center was the last to leave the court in Sunday's training session.

Li Furong, also deputy director of the State General Administration of Sports, promised that China's first NBA player Wang Zhizhi's absence from the national team would not put Yao's NBA future in jeopardy.

"Wang's issue with the Chinese team will not affect Yao's NBA future," Li told reporters.

Wang Zhizhi, who joined the Dallas Mavericks in April 2001 as the first Chinese player in the NBA, didn't take part in the recent world championship and the Asian Games after angering Chinese basketball authorities by not reporting to the national team.

Chinese basketball officials have said they want a written agreement from the Rockets' making Yao available for the national team.

Yao had 15 points and 13 rebounds on Saturday to lead China over Kuwait 78-45 in their opening game.

The real giants of the Games

BEIJING: At 2.26m (7ft, 5in), China's towering centre Yao Ming rarely looks up to anyone.

But the No 1 US professional draft pick may finally have to crane his neck at the Asian Games in South Korea: he could wind up blocking out North Korean giant Ri Myung-hun (above), who, at 2.35m, stands nearly four inches taller.

Nevertheless, the "diminutive" Yao is keen for a match-up at the Games in Busan. It could take place if China and North Korea finish in the top two of their preliminary groups.

"I am looking forward to meeting him on the court, and beating him," Xinhua news agency quoted Yao Ming as saying on Friday after a workout.

China's Yao Ming and his teammates, striving to defend their title at the Games, beat Kuwait 78-45 in a preliminary group opener yesterday.

"Our objective is to win the gold medal," said coach Wang Fei. "But we have to do it step by step."

Sometimes do you guys wish that you were just regular fans? I mean, sometimes I wish that I could be one who just watches the games and patiently anticipates the next one. But us, oh no, we know every trade rumor, contract negotiation, and Rockets speculation there is. What brings this up, is the emotional rollercoaster that is Yao Ming. Ever since late May up until now I've had feelings of joy, worry, suspicion, excitement, discouragement, relief, and right now relaxation. Now, if I were a normal fan would I have known the latest Yao Ming negotiations every day? No. When Ming signs will the fan with the "Naked Eye" even know went on to get to that point? Nope. They will just think that the contract took longer than usual to get done. But to us it will mean much more, because we've watched this evolve ALL, summer long. Sometimes I just wish I could be that unassuming Rockets fan, who just loves to watch his team play. But I can't so that's why I'm here!! Clutchcity.Net is the greatest place in the internet. Thanx Clutch.

It is my understanding and belief that the Rockets now hold the rights to Ming, such that if he didn't sing htis season (and we have no reason to beleive he won't), the Rockets will just hold onto his rights, like Portland did with Sabonis, Utah with Kirilinko and other examples.

On a sidebar, Chinese people aren't stupid. I think the realize just as much as the rest of us that while playing in NYC might put Ming more in the spotlight, it is a spotlight they don't necessarily want to have. That is why all the Ming to NY rumors died away the second it didn't happen.

Maybe the CBA just wants Yao to stay focused on what's at hand (Asian Games, before that, World games) before they set him free for the U.S. Just a thought. But they're not trying to get us to trade him. The Rox organization did say that they would wait if necessary to get Yao to our team (prior to the draft; me, I'm not so patient, but I think we'll see him in our ugly-ass pinstripes on opening night....fingers crossed).

    ROXTXIA,

Those pinstripes just look wrong on Ming for some reason.

That's because pinstripes are supposed to make you look slimmer.

He doesn't need to look any slimmer. :D
