Yao is truly a star attraction. Look at all those other countries trying to get a snapshot of Yao.

Talking about star power, Yao is the most recognized Rockets ever, nationally or
internationaly(even if you exclude China). He's well known to non-baskeball fans too.
If only his performance matchs his popularity...

I agree that his performance doesn't yet match his popularity (probably never will, since he's just TOO popular now). However, it's not like he didn't perform. Otherwise, his popularity wouldn't be there.

that was cool.. I was proud of yao getting to carry the flag.. I'm sure that meant a lot to him..

although it seems awfully strange to see an american like del harris walking around with the red jacket and all in the chinese delegation...

Go Yao! I hope he does great, unless of course he is playing the United States

I think it's odds on that Yao will light the torch. And I doubt he'd be hampered by any mysterious motorcycle accidents a few days before the opening ceremony.

He will need at least one NBA champ ring, otherwise he doesnt deserve the hornor. I hope this ought to be his motivation.

I think he pretty much locked to light it up. Even if he didnt win a ring by then, he probably is still the most popular chinese athlete.
