Dorks. If Minny could, they'd take Yao for KG straight up. Not that KG isn't better right now -- of course he is. But he isn't unstoppable (like great centers can be and like Yao WILL be) and his contract is such that any team that features him features no one else of value. If Minny could, they'd take Yao for KG straight up. I'd venture a guess pretty much any team in the league would trade their today star for tomorrow's star -- especially at the rookie contract. If you're even thinking about trading Yao you have no idea what we have. As a result, you should shut the hell up, sit back and watch the river flow. This board got silly enough when Yao was picked. It got sillier still when he showed what he had. But it's never been quite as silly as when someone suggests trading him for the league's (current) best small forward -- AND throwing in a very good 2 and our supposed potential at 4 to boot. This is both dumb and dumber. If you're a Rocket fan look elsewhere to improve our prospects. We used to have PG problems too. Should we have traded Olajuwon for Stockton plus others before the championship years? Cause that's what this sounds like. Yao ain't going nowhere. I wouldn't trade him for Shaq. If you would (or even if you'd trade him for KG), you have no idea what we have.
If Rocks does this deal, it will leave Wolves with enough money to sign Kidd/Brand in addition to Yao, Cat, Eggie. I think they would do it if they loose the first round play-offs again, since KG is not garaunteed to sign with them when his contract is up in a year. Wolves team PG Kidd/Strickland SG Cat/Gill/Peeler SF Wally/Trent PF Eggie/Smith C Yao/Nesterovic or PG Strickland/Peeler SG Cat/Gill SF Wally/Trent PF Brand/Eggie C Yao/Nesterovic With enough money left over to sign another 4-5 million/year player. That would make the Wolves a formidable team. So I wouldn't do this trade... -G'day-
Let me be the first to congratulate you on the first stupid "Trade for Kevin Garnett" thread of the 2003 Summer. Here's a little clue for you - Kevin Garnett will make $28m for the 2003-2004 season. That's over half of the Rockets payroll. Now what half of the team would you like to send the TWolves? I suggest you find an additional $17+m in contracts to go with what you have listed and make sure they are players the TWolves would want. Another clue - Only 1 of Cato, Rice or Taylor would be remotely considered. Now your down to about $8m.
I know this will not go over to well here,But I honestly think with the system rudy wants(ala 1994) and what ming is good at,that troy hudsen would actually fit it better than steve. Plus cheaper. steve/mobley for zerbiack/hudsen sign posey and jon barry hudsen/barry posey/zerbiack zerbiack/morris griffin/taylor ming/cato You guys should thank your lucky stars Im not the gm of the rockets, because I would do this. I dont think cat/steve fit in AT ALL with ming and rudy.
Francis/Rice/Griffin for KG Get a deal for an extension at the regular veteran's max from Garnett and I'd do it. Of course the Rockets consider Francis untouchable so it will never happen, only in my dreams.
None of these trades will work because of the 15% trade rule and the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Plus do you realize what percentage of Minne's payroll KG takes up? 92.1%!!! I don't think this team is gonna change that much at all.
TRS - Even if the Rockets wanted to trade Francis, he will become a BYC player when his extention kicks in on July 1st. This BYC status will make him nearly impossible to trade to an over the cap team w/o a third (under the cap) team taking some salary. IOW, on top of the salaries needed to match Garnett's huge contract, you will need to talk the Nugget's, Clipper's & Wizard's of the world into taking an additional $3m-$5m in salaries...and possibly for a price...as in a pick. As you were saying...it's a dream.
I thought for sure everyone would think that there's no way Minn takes the trade regardless of money, but everyone seems to think the Rockets are getting the bad end of the deal. Not that I would do the trade, but I totally disagree. Minnesota would basically be getting a worse version of the current Rockets team; filled in with role players that are arguably worse than our own. They would be a consistent lottery team. On the other hand, the Rockets would be getting perhaps the most efficient franchise player other than Shaq or TD. Not saying we would be contenders, but we'd certaintly be instantly better than we are now.
