The report in the Chinese newspaper Xinxi (SEENK'-see) Shibao (shi-BOW') today says the film also will feature Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou and South Korean singer BoA. The newspaper cites the Taiwanese producer Wu (WOO) Dun (DUHN). He says Yao will spend a day filming for the Chinese-language film "Dunk." Chou is one of Chinese pop's biggest stars. He'll have the lead role as a kung fu fighter turned basketball player. Chou has been developing his film career, appearing in the Japanese comic inspired film "Initial D." He's now filming famed Chinese director Zhang Yimou's "Curse of the Golden Flower."
IMHO, it is just propaganda tricks of that Taiwanese film maker.....not yet confirmed by anyone from Yao Ming or Team Yao. Just think about it. To do a 1-day cameo appearance in March 2007 in Taiwan when every of his team mates in the Rockets are fighting to qualify for playoff ?? NO WAY for our Yao Ming.
Yao Ming will not have any spare time for the movies. He need time for rest and training. The fact that the movies is produced by Taiwanese, it will be more difficult for Yao to be involved.
Well, reason 1 stands. But reason 2 should pose no problem. Firstly, alot of Taiwanese funded films or TV series now in China. Alot of Chinese actors/actresses/singers are very popular in Taiwan and vice versa. There are alot of film projects or concerts across the straits with Taiwanese and Chinese actors/actresses/singers participating. Secondly, there is no restrictions for Chinese athletes visiting Taiwan. Yao Ming has visited Taiwan before. In 1997, he visited Taiwan as a member of the Chinese Junior national team, but he was with an injury that he did not participate in any competition. And sometimes this year, he will visit Taiwan again under an invitation by the Taiwanese basketball association.
