In CBA, Yao is a better rebounder and shot blocker than Wang. But definitely Wang is way faster than Yao. Now, Wang plays in NBA. Everybody say Wang is very slow. What can you expect of Yao? In the video, do you feel Yao's spin move looks like a slow motion picture? I don't think he will get many chances to use that spin move in NBA.
I don't know much about Wang, so you got me there. But why are Carrol and the scouts saying he is fast and could pass as a 6-5 guy if he wasn't. I know this is a stupid reason, but what if Yao only does what is necessary? If you only needed to jump 2 inches to reach something, why jump 10? I don't know if he does this, but he may. He has a reason to. (this goes for his quicknes also.) Who knows? Maybe it was in slow-mo. I doubt it though. BTW I will continue to argue because I want to make up for the time I will miss on my upcoming vacation. How come no one else is talking about this besides us?
The problem is I'v never seen Yao jump high for even once. But I can see our speed of replying to each other's posts is way faster than Yao's spin move. With your speed of writing posts, I am sure you can buy an e-ticket online with a very good price. Have a nice vacation. Yao is the man. I surrender.
YES! I WIN! HAHAHAHAHA! HA...uhh sorry. I will admit I saw his spin was kinda slow. I did see him do a turnaround fadeaway once or twice. They were a little slow but I don't think it will matter with his size. I also haven't seen Yao "jump out of the gym." However I remember seeing a comment about Yao's alley-oop in his highlight. One person was commenting about how little he jumped, but another noted that he jumped off of one foot, which is more difficult. Either way, Yao will wow. That sounds kind of corny. Now I have no one to argue with.
What are you guys talking about? I was watching the Yao highlights, which you can view yourself at the clutchcity multimedia section, and Yao has very good speed even for a 7 ft guy. One clip I saw, Yao makes a spin hook and leaves his man (in the 2000 olympic games). If you wanna talk about speed, Yao stole the ball from a much smaller guard from half court and drives to the basketball for a dunk. For a center, thats pretty damn impressive even if it is in the CHinese league. By the way, Yao's head was nearly touching the rim when he dunked it. So his ups are adequent but not "jumping out of the gym". You have to keep in mind, that Yao is 7' 5"! Also, he trains with the Chinese team who knows nothing about the physical game and doesn't even encourage their players to hit the weight room, you can look at Wang and Mengke for evidence. Once Rudy teaches yao the ropes and Yao trains with the world class trainers here...Yao willl be something. Yao still has alot of developing to do but he has shown that he has the work ethic. He has a very very very very BIG upside. He already has the soft touch which years of practice many players don't develope. Now he just needs to build up. Also, did you know that Yao's dream was to own a car! He had to ride a bicycle to the games. It just goes to show you what kinda resources Yao has and that most junior varsity players have more at their disposal than Yao.
Also, to add about Yao's speed. When CHris Chrisoffseton or whatever his last name is, the oregon center that didn't get drafted but neither did Aaron Mcghee (puzzling). Chris was checking Yao tight from about 20 ft away along the base line. Off the dribble, Yao fakes right and Chris bites. Yao takes a dribble off the to left, Chris recovers and sticks Yao. Yao spots up and shoots and swishes it. To be able to shoot over a fairly decent 7' 2" guy with a 7' 10" wingspan takes speed. Off the bat, Yao is up to par with Rik Smits but as the years progresses...who knows what Yao's game would be like.
I've surrendered on the speed part. Let me focus on a new point and switch the subject a little bit. Yao made enough money in CBA to own a car. The reason he didn't own a car was because he gave all this money to his parents. It is obvious his mother is the boss at home, which is very normal in China nowadays. Yao's mother will come to Houston with Yao to take care of him and his father still stays in China. Do you feel it weird? But it is very normal for the people from China. I don't like it at all. Ming needs to be a man instead of his mom's good kid. NBA games are like street fights. Ming's mom should stay away from his professional career. Do you remember Michael Chang, the tennis player? His mom is also his financial manager. Personally, I do feel this is a bad Chinese tradition. We don't need good kids. We need independent men!
Well, we definitely don't want a Mama's Boy. But if I had to pick between a Mama's boy and a convicted felon (see Jayson Williams & possibly the Answer), I'd rather take the former.
