I was looking at it from another angle. I understand what your saying.

I just think the Yao thing is far fetched even if if they were trying to extend it.

 

this hurts....i just upped to a full season package for next year and now i'm not too happy about it.

In the four-page letter, it was also revealed Donaghy claimed to agents that an anonymous owner, believed to be Dallas' Mark Cuban, influenced a referee supervisor through complaints to instruct referees, including alternate Donaghy, to be more stringent in the calling of illegal screens by Houston Rockets center Yao Ming in a 2005 playoff series.

This really says nothing. I guarantee this happens all the time. If a coach/GM/owner sees something that needs addressing that the referees aren't calling, he sends a tape or makes a call to get his case heard.

If Cuban felt Yao was setting illegal screens, he can send in a tape or call someone to review it. The league does not have to listen to him. The "influence" was probably a legit case.

I honestly cannot imagine how many of these are sent in on Shaq every year. Big men are hard to referee.

EDIT: Don't take this as I'm defending Cuban. Everything that guy does is douchey. He probably sent in a douchey tape or made a douchey phone call with a douchey complaint to try to douche up the world with douche. I simply am defending against conspiracy theory.

Did you not see the video where they call phantom calls on Yao (not just illegal screens) and Yao would get hammered and get no calls. Its not that they didn't want Yao Ming to advance, but I think with more JVG not advancing because of his comments and not giving up the official who told him all that stuff.

i wonder if they started calling the illegal screen on KG at the end of game 3 because of this report coming to surface..

I remember reading a while back that Stu Jackson did tell JVG about the refs. I think Peter Vescey reported it, so it may not be all that credible. Maybe someone can dig it up?

 

Like I said, I believe this all to be coincidental. Bad calls are made all the time in every sport.

 

what I really hate is the fact that Stern is "brushing this under the rug".. he can't be that naive to believe that Donaghy is the only crooked ref..

 

Les is the one that should be outraged......he should be all over Stern......

From what i´ve got to read about this issue it seems that Donaghy didn´t fix the games by himself but others ref participated as well, what can be read between lines is the games fixed were two of the Dallas wins in `05 and the Lakers-King game 6 in 2002.
