while i am not surprised...i am FURIOUS! i have already had thoughts bout the NBA being rigged as soon as i saw the pathetic celtics get gift wrapped 2 superstars and the lakers get Gasol for free. from that time onwards everyone knew it was going to be a Lakers/Celtics finals without a doubt...what happened to the old days of building a TEAM and making them work hard to get to the finals? Now its just buying a championship and all money driven. I hate the NBA even tho i love the sport of basketball i cant stand this anymore. This is regardless of the fact that it involves the Rockets(Which of course adds to my fury). Look at the drafts and how the lotto falls...Bulls get number 1 pick? they been dying to get back to the playoffs for awhile now and all of sudden they land the number 1 pick and have a chance to get hometown boy Derrick Rose? Lebron James suddenly comes to the rescue of another lost franchise in the Cavs to rescue his hometown team? its all freakin rigged i swear. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SPORT! now it is just as much as a clown circus as the WWE is.....David stern needs to be fired! and the NBA should do somethign to fix this before they lose its entire fan base....

it was so obvious. the reffing in games 4 and 5 were some of the most ridiculous games i have ever seen. in game 5, yao got called for basically every screen and got hacked a ton of time and got nothing.

however, dirk got looked at and received a foul (a little exaggeration but you get the drift).

this would probably change the history of the tmac-yao era as we know it.

Stern will probably issue a statement next, with the help of the media, etc., that donaghy is lying and his accusations were proven false.. or they'll cut his sentence or throw him money to shut up.

No way Stern gives in.. just look at the little deceitable face.. he's like a compulsive liar that thinks he's better than everyone else.. F the nba..

The celtics should be up 3-0, but look at the series.. 2-1. There's no way in hell this series doesn't go 7... and lakers will win game 4 (look at the foul calling discrepancies.. home/away does not make a team foul more... what bs)..... Screw the nba.. they're starting to sacrifice long-term success for short-term success.. way to model yourself after Enron Stern, you freakin' moron.

Guess cheating when this much money is involved is inevitable..

Haven't the Bulls been in the playoffs the last few years with this year being the exception?

Don't have time to read the whole thread, but judging by the few posts above me, I know the tone of this thread.

After reading the story on ESPN, I don't think anything was going on here other than bad officiating. If someone complains and brings a legitimate problem to the league, then it should be noted to the refs. If the league reviewed the tape and found there to be a problem, they better tell the refs to watch for it.

I don't think the NBA is going to keep a huge source of revenue out of the playoffs on purpose(Yao).

"bad officiating" that was OBVIOUS. it happened in games 3 and 4 and got worse in game 5 (whoever won game 5 was going to win the series).

and it's about "extending" the series. the refs purposely tried to extend that series where it could have ended in 4 or 5. obviously the mavs got more confidence as the series went on.

and it's not like yao brings a lot of ratings. rocket national TV games the past few years don't have the highest ratings.

i don't think they rig it for a team to win that series, but they want to rig it so the series goes longer -> more tickets sold -> more money -> more profits

however when you do that, you do the team who would have won earlier an injustice (our rockets in 04-05)

Gees, and I just thought the NBA had borrowed some of the WWE refs. The NBA has been turning me off for several years now. The whole Celtics team and the Lakers landing Gasol was set up also. They wanted their ratings to shoot up. I've got to the point where I won't watching any other team other than the Rockets. Everyone knew what was happening, but no one could prove it. Thanks FBI! Now lets get all the way down to the root of the problem.

I'd like to see David Stern under investigation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find it funny how the Rockets that season made complaints to the league about how Yao was being officiated and the Rockets don’t see any efforts by the league to remedy it but Cuban makes his compliant and it immediately gets rectified.

JVG not being notified until after game 4 that the refs were zoning in on Yao put our team at a disadvantage. We see countless infractions in the NBA but the rules only apply when it’s convenient. Stern is like Bill Clinton, he washes his hands on technicalities but we all know what he did.

China would have exploded if Yao was in the finals. Do the those ratings include all the people hunched around their computer watching cctv5? Are national tv games even broadcast in China? If so, what are the ratings there?

This also completely contradicts the thought that NBA top officials are telling refs that star players are not to be called for fouls. Even if the Rockets ratings are the worst in the league, Yao is still top five in GLOBAL popularity. Back then, he was probably #1. There is a reason Yao gets the starting role in the All-Star game every year even if he has not had the best season/been hurt.

    Or could it be rigged?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!

    Nah...I don't think its rigged.

I said MAYBE but once I saw that the Knicks didn't get the first pick in the lottery this year, it eased my mind a bit.

NYC needs a 1st round pick 10x worse than Chicago does.

again, when i say rig and even monaghy said it, THEY WANT TO EXTEND THE SERIES. the longer the series goes, it was obvious dallas was going to win it b/c they're a deeper team.

the NBA TEAMS would only benefit from this: more ticket sales (usually playoff games net them $4-5 million per home game) -> more profits. that's all the league wants.

You know what I find interesting in that report.

JVG didn't get fined for saying they were targeting Yao.. the report claims that he was fined the 100,000 for not turning in the name of the person that told him.
