    Lao Da means Big boss......or Big Brother. Yao Ming often referred to Steve Francis as Lao Da !!

    it means old big, literally. so its a reference to people who are old then you, whom you would respect. i think its a common reference by the triads when they refer to their bosses.

    "Lao Da" means big boss or big brother, the leader of a pack.
