Actually, Ming's worst shooting nighte for 1 for 4 against the Clips. A team we're gonna see again next few weeks.

I'll tell u what troubles me about the ROY situation. If it were the coaches who vote (and I don't think it is), I think Yao is a shoe in. Almost every coach of a team that has played the Rox since Yao's minutes exceeded 10/gm has had good things to say about him. Even sideline x-coaches doing broadcasts have good things to say about him. However, much like the Oscars of Hollywood, I don't get the sense that the NBA voting committee is all that fair.

How exactly do you go about objectively measuring performance? Any Yao fan knows that half of his impact doesn't even hit the stat sheet. i.e. intimidations, altered shots, mismatches. If the season ended today, I think Yao should garner at least 1/3 of the votes. My hope is that his numbers keep rising and that it removes, FROM ALL DOUBT, his place in ROY consideration.

at 60+% FG% Yao has a shot of making Rookie history.

This is the stat line I think is most pertinent.

Instead of simple shooting percentage, I was weighting my (subjective) opinion on his worst shooting day with how many shots he took :p

I think Stern would jump through hoops to make Yao the R.O.Y. and I'm sure he would prefer he doesn't share it with anyone. You'd think that might work in our favor (lol).
But on the merits I think Yao will have solidified his position by late in the season. A lot of people were down on Wagner around the time of the draft that are having regrets about him too, so there are going to be similar arguements made.
But let's be honest, the Yao-hype and backlash is the story in the NBA this year. You've got too many sportswriters who wish they could have bitten their fingers off before they'd typed some of the garbage they spewed. Yao still hasn't been around to all the NBA venues so a lot of these geniuses haven't been able to see him in person. I think it's likely there's going to be numerous acts of contrition on the sports pages of America around the time R.O.Y. really becomes a hot topic.
So which rookie most impacted the NBA this season? Phew, good luck Dajuan.

Also add the stats that how many teams will be preparing plans for Ming when facing Rockets, as well as how many double-teams he will be getting as Ming get more and more consistant.

I had the exact same thought. Notwithstanding Yao's stats and overall performances, which alone positions him extremely well to be RoY, Stern and his NBA exec gnomes are marketing gurus and Yao as RoY will simply open up exposure to vast markets in China/Asia. Of course, if Yao does win the RoY, the skeptics and sore losers will then turn around and use that as the only rationale why Yao wins it, conveniently ignoring his bball stock.

Another thing to consider with Yao's points is that he's not getting the calls right now. He's gone through the rookie treatment with the officials and we should be seeing him going to the line with more regularity.

I thought they all had ESPN and a TV set. Well may be they think what they saw on TV were just some special effects enhanced by computer graphic ... :D

Probably Pau Gasol, Eddy Curry, or Brendan Haywood.

In my opiniom, the key game for him to achieve roy is the JAN 17th's game with lakers. If ming can domstrate his ability in that game. I dont think there are any problem for him to be the ROY.

The only way Yao will win ROY is if he stays out foul trouble. Other then that no one has a chance to beat him for ROY.

I think Yao Ming should win, Wagner gets 30 shots a game because that Cavs team is really bad, so it's not a stretch if he ends up averaging 22-25 points a game with 5 assists. My roommate is from Cleveland, he whines about it to me every night. DaJuan just jacking shots, although both he and Yao are helping his team.

Meanwhile... yao had some bad games earlier this season, so he might not be able to raise his average up to 11 rebounds per game from the ~6rpg that he has now. Although from the last couple of games it definitely looks like he's 10+ a night. At the least he should be 15-8. Definitely all-star... because for one thing people vote on hype, and also -- who's better than Yao at the five besides Shaq in the West? I don't agree that Olowokandi is that good, and Divac, while still better, doesn't put up the numbers. The other FC's of the world (Dirk, Duncan, etc.) are power forwards.

Still early fellas...remember last year how Tinsley had it "wrapped up" before the All-Star break. Let's just hope Yao consistently gives us 15/10/3 the rest of the way (while averaging 27-30mpg). If he does, he'll be in the top two and we'll be in the playoffs. But I do guarantee one thing...Yao will be on the All-Rookie team.

Does Shaq even want to play in the All-Star game? When's the last time he played in one?

Yao Ming will win the Rookie of the Year.

The latest ESPN Rookie Power Rankings have bumped him up from 9 to 2 in one week:
Says Randy Kim of ESPN "It took Yao Ming three weeks to arrive, but he's climbing the charts quicker than an Eminem single."

Who is this Wagner guy ?
