I think the following paragraph from the wikipedia entry of the self-proclaimed half-Japanese former ROC president Lee Tung-Hui may clear up that misunderstanding of yours:

don't see you guys blasting christians who go to church when their god has admitted hitler into heaven, so why blast japanese who go to yasukuni? let religion be religion and politics be politics, and if you don't believe, then just leave them people alone? (same principle applies to falungong).

don't see you guys blasting CCP leaders who go to pay homage to Mao every year, when he murdered more chinese than the japanese. don't see you guys seething with anger when your own textbooks gloss over mao's failures/purges/atrocities, the invasion of tibet, the surrender of outer mongolia, getting your butts kicked while invading vietnam/south korea, tiananmen, or the democratic/economic success of taiwan, so why do you guys harp on japanese textbooks?

don't see you guys blasting your own chinese children who hate their "chinese" identity and insist that they are "american" and not "chinese", even when they've only been in the US 3-4 years, so why blast lee teng-hui who's born in the japanese empire, raised as a japanese, educated in japan, and yet who feels that he's BOTH taiwanese AND japanese?

if only you guys can stop for a moment, and realize that the same nationalism which fuels your passion on this bbs, is the same nationalism that fuels japan's revisionist historians and taiwan's independence advocates. it's just being patriotic. not necessarily rational, but nearly always passionate. if you can love and defend the name of your country, why can't people in japan or taiwan love and defend their country?

it's that simple. try it. step back, and practice thinking in the other person's shoe, before you write 20 pages on what YOU believe. oh wait... am i actually arguing for reason from the chinese? must be the late nights messing with me. :p

I'm not sure why that would change my opinion. It pretty much confirms everything I said. China did not ask politely for Taiwan to wait when Taiwan explored the subject, they shot missiles. That is exactly what I said. Or do you think that qualifies as a 'polite request'?

I answered your question of "who fired the first shot", and it was the ROC. PRC first tried diplomatic channels to get Lee to reverse his statement and it fell on deaf ears, what else could they have done?

You still haven't answered a poster's request asking for a link on your Yao being nationalistic story, did you just pulled things out of your a$$es like usual?

Your attempts to shift blame from Imperial Japan is weak. People don't need to be perfect to ask for justice. I noticed that you don't even dare to say that what Imperial Japan did was right, and what Imperial Japan worshippers are doing right now is right.

Does Isreal's military action on the Palestinians void their rights to seek justice against Nazi Germany? Does it mean Neo Nazis are right to march and celebrate Holocaust just because Isreal dropped some bombs on Palestinians?Does it mean Jews can't accuse Neo Nazis for the crimes they've done because Jews are not perfect? When your answer is yes, you have a very warped mind to say the least. Stupid people thinks they can glorify crimes by saying other did it. Your lack of reasoning is appalling.

At least I find no problem in saying what Mao did was awful and it's wrong to worship the guy. Can you do the same? Can you have the human decency to admit that what Imperial Japan did to China was awful, and it's wrong to commemorate the sins by the current Japanese and people like you? Even a communist party like CPP has the guts to admit what Mao did in the great leap forward and cultural revolution were wrong, and foes like you can't admit what Imperial Japan did was wrong. Some of you Seperatists guys are worse than communists. No doubt about it.

It's pathetic and disgraceful for Japanese leaders to honor war criminals who were largely responsible for the rape and pillaging of East Asia. Their denial and history revision only prolongs the outrage Japan's neighbors have for them, and that will only lead to contempt and disagreement.

Japan is dragging its feet on the issue and hoping that the war survivors will quietly pass away while they change the history books. Doing so will further the shift in perspective in their people from "what the leaders did was wrong" to "it wasn't that big a deal."

Because there are other threads to blast Christians or whatever religion you want o blast. Just to satisfy your need to blast Christians, I will say that I think all religions suck. Happy?

Because: (1) there are other threads blasting CCP leaders for their ****ing greed and stupidity and incompetency and whatever the hell you want to blast them for. (2) Mao didn't wage a war to kill his people, he thought he had a perfect economical policy which turned out to be disastrous. (3) The Japanese war has caused the most painful memory the most devastation to the Chinese people and the Japanese government still has shown no signs of true remorse.

Ok, those chinese chilren who hate their "chinese" identity are mother****ing idiots, happy? Now can we get back to bashing Lee Teng Hui who is a Japanese that wants to split Taiwan from China? Think about it, how would you feel if some Mexican born American politician started advocating spliting California or Texas and rejoining them to Mexico?

Denying war crimes is not exactly the same as wanting to reunify your country, is it? Japanese can love and defend their country to their hearts content, therefore I expect that you don't raise the same question when the Chinese want to defend their own country with the same level of passion.

You have to practice what you preach, other wise it makes you look like a hypocrite.

    just like old times, eh?

playing for the chinese national team and accepting honors from the chinese communist party are sufficient grounds for taiwan rejecting yao's visa, esp. when, er... there are NO GROUNDS REQUIRED to reject someone not from your country. taiwan can reject whoever the hell they want. just because. we're an independent country after all. :p

does israel's atrocities invalidate its persecution of former nazis? i would argue yes, from a moral standpoint. a nation engaging in murder, oppression, ethnic cleansing, and imperialism, has little right to criticize another one engaging in the same activities without being hypocritical. as for neo-nazis, i'm not sure what you're referring to there.

were the nazi's wrong? yes. were the imperial japanese wrong? yes. so you see, maybe i do have some "human decency" and some "reason"?

the reason i love to pick on you, is that you let your passions blind you to other people's points of view, and thereby become terribly predictable and easily manipulated. All we have to do to push your buttons is to examine your chinese govt/education/upbringing. you're not alone, the overwhelming majority of chinese immigrants i encounter in daily life all exhibit this same trait [pardon the stereotyping here, but it leads me to truly admire whatever education system they have over in china. now if only they can promote love and tolerance instead of fear and anger]. stop for a moment, and open your mind, just for a second. and let the passion subside. and think from the opposite viewpoint. we're all humans trying to do the best we can. we all have our own worldview and our own agenda. but when people stop trying to understand each other, that's when prejudice, injustice, and atrocities begin. good luck!

You guys are like a bunch of close minded cavemen. Learn to be more open minded OK? The Chinese communist party isn't afraid of accepting Taiwanese who play for Taiwan's sports team. Like I said, in many aspects you guys are worse than the current communists. You Seperatists operate like communists in the old days, set up closed environment to instill paranoia among your people.

You make a big deal out of rejecting an athlete, like it has anything to do with independance. Laughable. Is that because it's increasing difficult for you guys to find spiritual crutches to feel being "independant"?

Fully warped mind on display. I can't believe you are equating what Isreal is doing now to the Holocaust.

As for Neo-nazis, I think you would make a great companion to a female Neo Nazi member. You two can go hand in hand talking about the great things Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan did, and how it's understandable to commemorate the war criminals out of your warped sense of loyalty.

You made a progress, but not enough to display human decency and reasoning ability. Come on, it's not that hard to convert from the dark side. Since you admit that Imperial Japan was wrong in WWII, why not take one step further to admit that right wing Japanese are wrong to commemorate Imperial Japan's militarism? and that your boy Lee Tung Hui is also wrong in taking sides with them?

Yawn, this coming from an ultra close minded camp that is so paranoid as to boycotting pandas.

Now quit playing "you Chinese are brainwashed card" with me. You don't realize that everytime you post you look exactly like a brainwashed fool in my eyes with your little rhetorics. I post because I feel like being open about it, you post with an agenda. We don't need to prove anything, the world powers largely agree with us.

I recieved my education in HK and USA, places far more open minded than your closed and warped pro Imperial Japanese society.

Pick on me all you want, I'm bullet proof. Meanwhile, try get a life you lost souls.

All over America, you'll see portraits and statues of James Monroe (Missouri Compromise condoning slavery), Andrew Jackson (devastation of the Cherokee Nation), James Polk (annexation of half of Mexico), William McKinley (subjugation of Philippines), FDR (firebombing of Germany and Japan), Harry Truman (nuking of Japan) being honored.

History is history. It's ok when you apply MODERN interpretations of what's right and wrong to historical events and historical figures, but it doesn't make much sense when you judge and punish and exact "repentence" from their modern descendents. When I read my US history, I saw an objective discussion of slavery and its economic necessities and moral flaws, not a blanket condemnation. I saw a discussion of "Manifest Destiny" and the dreams of settlers vs. the plight of the Indians/Mexicans. I saw the rise of Imperialism and the Treaty of Paris vs. the Filipino freedom fighters. I saw the concept of "strategic bombing" and "national morale" vs. the plight of Germans and Japanese. I agree that the history books tried to be objective and promoted debate, but in ALL THESE CASES, the perspective was overwhelmingly USA-centric. Very little in the way of "right vs. wrong", but a lot on explaining why things happened the way they did.

That's the way history books should be, whether in Japan, China or the US.

As for the Yasukuni Shrine. It's a SHINTO SHRINE. They honor dead people. It doesn't matter whether you were homosexual or a pedophile or an adulterer or a mass murderer. If you're dead, and you were Shinto, and you rendered service to Japan, then you get to go in there. Don't be fooled by Chinese posters. Most Japanese leaders do not deny the IJA's wartime atrocities. In fact, just about EVERY SINGLE JAPANESE PRIME MINISTER has acknowledged and expressed remorse or regret regarding Imperial Japan's actions/atrocities during the Imperialist Age. They merely would prefer not to discuss them and highlight them at every opportunity.

It is my humble opinion, that China's crude and hypocritical insistence on bringing up Nanking at every opportunity and promoting animosity toward their neighbors (Japan, Taiwan) is what "prolongs the outrage" and "will only lead to contempt and disagreement".

Case in point. What the heck does Yasukuni have to do with Yao being rejected by Taiwan for a visa? So now Taiwanese people have to be judged by Chinese people because we don't hate Japan as much as they do?

You're missing the part where American textbooks do not deny our genocidal role in slaughtering Native Americans or other the historical facts you have mentioned. The recent row over victims who served as comfort women during WW2 serves as a reminder that the Japanese are still in denial.

It's great you can study history and realize the facts are biased. Can you claim that the Japanese have the same freedoms or allowed to dig deeper into historically documented atrocities?

And yes, officials make apologies, but the whole shrine issue isn't as cut and dried as you put it. There are right wing groups who want to use those visits as an admission of their influence and Japan's own nationalistic agenda. As long as those leaders visit the shrine, it puts little weight into their apologies and it earns points with the hawks in Japan. Most people would be satisfied if those war criminals were exhumed, since they were hastily put there in the first place.

Gosh... I never thought one day that I'd disagree with you this much. Typically we agree.

The same comfort woman system you deplore, which disgustingly exploited Asian women.... was actually kept in place and used by American soldiers for a year after WW2. Don't see that in OUR textbooks, do we?

As for textbooks... I doubt you'll find actual numbers on the total casualties suffered by Indian nations/Mexico/Japan+Germany etc. etc. at the hands of US atrocities in our elementary school and high school textbooks. In fact, there isn't much mention of it at all. We mention there was a war. We mention there was resistence. We mention that we won. That's about it. American textbooks, albeit better than most, pretty much follow the same mold as textbooks in other parts of the world in ethnocentricity. As far as my recollection goes, i think the new japanese textbooks do the same? they mention there is a war. they mention there was resistence. they mention that they won/lost. and if i remember correctly, i think they highlighted the suffering of civilians just about as much as american/chinese textbooks did.

Agree with you entirely on the right wing nationalists in Japan exploiting Yasukuni though. I don't like that one bit. I think it hurts their cause more than they know. And it gives fodder to anti-Japanese/Taiwanese Chinese nationalist propaganda, which brings us back to this 20-page monster.

Aww, how cute it is, Lil is brandishing his little sword of justice to slay the big bad dragon. Yes, it's so very cruel for people to make anti Nazi protests and make anti-Nazi movies every year. Hypocritical cruel guys like Steven Spielberg should stop promote animosity to make films like the Schindler's list and Saving Private Ryan. Spieldberg must appologize to the Neo-Nazis because his works prolongs the outrage and will only lead to comtempt and disagreement.

Welcome to the free world in which you can say "Japanese militarisits suck a$$" without being frowned upong by your China Segregation movement companions.

I agree. You have my sympathy here. It must stink for you to try to wipe their a$$ everytime it happens. You can make your life easier by telling them to sh$t in private, you know, hide somewhere in a mountain and burn all the incense in the world, instead of crapping in front of the whole world.

Gosh, you are picking on Japan's Neo Fascists, what a hypocritical and cruel thing to do!

Don't you know that according to Lil, that Shinto Shrine they pay visit to is for honoring dead pedophiles and mass murderers?! You know those Imperial fascists who tied up thousands of teenage girls robbed from poor Chinese and Korean villages and raped them on a chair 20 to 30 times a day, and their name boards are sitting there in the Shrine receiving official honoring, and Chinese people have no right to pick on them!

But Lil, who shares the same blood with those girls, would tell us that we are picking on Japanese out of irrational patriotic passion when they honor the offenders of such atrocity.

Have you no shame? Lil. Honestly, you can hate China being a Chinese descendant, it's tragic, but what demons made you lose your humanity and sympathy to the victims?

In the end, it doesn't matter what "knowledgable" BS you say, people know what is right and what is wrong because they are humans. It's not about the boundary of nations, when it comes to things like this, I believe every man with a soul shall detest the Japan Neo Fascists and their lil friends.
