That makes sense to me, there no way on earth i can read that language, but i can see where your comin from.
Hey let's not avoid from the opportunity that Yao Ming presents, a chance for American/Chinese fans to get to know each other a little better... we don't often have much in common, so let's use this. So, with that in mind, how about we all help out by doing the following: - Chinese posters don't abuse this forum by speaking to each other in Chinese, "too" much. Come here only if your intended audience includes the American fans. Èç¹ûÄãµÄÌù×Ó²»ÊǸøÃÀ¹úÈ˶ÁµÄ£¬×îºÃ²»Òª·ÅÔÚÕâ¶ù¡£ - Bilingual speakers should do our part to translate the relevant portions into Chinese. - And all you poor English-speaking folks , I should mention that babelfish *does* translate Chinese. But you can't just paste the strange English-encoded characters into babelfish for it to translate... instead, take the following steps (assuming you have a modern Windows/IE combination... I'm not gonna bother making this compatible for everyone): 1) in Internet Explorer, right-click on this page, and select: "Encoding->More->Chinese Simplified (GB2312)". Windows might ask you to install some software from the installation CD, just ok and do it. It's worth the price. 2) you'll see that the garbage characters have become Chinese characters, which may still be garbage to you... but at least the computer (and Yao Ming) knows what they mean. 3) copy the following line of Chinese characters: ÎÒµÄÃû×ÖÊÇYAO MING. browse to http://babelfish.altavista.com, paste into the search box, select "Chinese->English" in the drop-bown box, and choose "Translate". Enjoy!
Nice post heech. This in my opionion is what being a courteous poster and bridge the cultural gap is all about. Instead of going gun ho and alienating people, try to reason out and offer alternatives and compromise.
Zhao: You probably missed the memo from clutch since you are new here. To put it briefly, posting here is not rights, its privileges. Since this is an English forum....I agree with heech. Enjoy the board.
that's great, because i agree with heech too. i just don't want chinese speakers to be purged from the forum. i have been enjoying this forum for a year now.
Hahaha, it took a bit of experimentation but I figured out what you did wrong... you set the encoding on the page to "Chinese Traditional", instead of the "Chinese Simplified" encoding that I wrote it as. So, again, critical that you select 'Encoding->Chinese Simplified (GB2312)' when viewing the page, before copying any text from it for the purposes of this experiment.
That is kinda neat...doesnt improve the translation that much...but better than straight bablefish without the encoding.. here is what the initial post come up with using your way. pretty funny..... the locust is vulgar...
lol, rocket2k. Well, if you've watched horribly dubbed kungfu movies before it shouldn't be that bad But I think we should try to leave most of the postings in english and have bbsers translate those posts that are in chinese.
I agree that this is predominately an english-speaking forum used by mostly english-speaking users. I like the articles posted in chinese, as long as they're accompanied with a translation. Chinese posts should only be posted if their original source was in chinese. I don't think chinese (or spanish, or italian, or japanese, or anything other than english) should be used when posting comments or having discussions. It is a matter of courtesy and respect. And like it's been said, posting here is a privilege, not a right. I myself am half-chinese, and i do speak and read chinese. I just don't have the language pack so everything comes up looking like gibberish. But even if i were able to display true chinese characters, i don't think it's fair to other posters/users. yipingzhao: As to not coming into the thread if you see chinese in the topic line...sure it is one's perogative to avoid a thread if the TOPIC doesn't suit their interest or taste. But if the LANGUAGE excludes them from viewing the thread, then it's no longer a perogative, they have absolutely no choice. And not only is that not fair, it takes up server space. patcher: You best just shut up, cause although you're "defending" the chinese on this board, you come across as a rude and foolish idiot who is doing an injustice to those you purport to represent.
I kind of dig the whole Chinese thing around here. It sometimes makes understanding a little bit more difficult, but it also adds an additional perspective and a different flavor. I would say that it's not that difficult to ignore the thread with the name that doesn't make any sense to you if you are allergic to foreign languages.
Can someone translate the subject of this thread into English please? Thanks. If not, I'll just change it to "hey hey, look at these pics... wee!"
heech, Thanks for the tip. Even if babel fish is hard to understand it is much better than not having any idea of what is being said. B
I think "Yao Ming is rethinking/ re-evaluating himself is fine". But if you want to change it to wee look at pics, I have no prob with it.
Changed title of thread from, umm Ò¦Ã÷ÒѾ_ÔÚÖØÐÂ˼¿¼×Ô¼º to the current title. For those others "debating", this is an English language board and I don't think starting and continuing threads in Chinese would be too considerate. I think Clutch would appreciate it if we kept everything in English (just my guess). No disrespect to the Chinese fans who do a great service with translations of Chinese articles.
I think there are plenty of Chinese forumns, these Chinese posters just want to SHARE it here. It's not like they have nowhere to go. They meant well. But they can't speak much English and don't know anyone here, so they just post Chinese. I guess they are hoping someone would then translate it. So people should just calm down and wait for the translation, jump out and say I can't read will just mess things up. Plus I think the so-called 'Chinese discussion' is just someone trying to use Chinese to tell those people to use English. So just ignore that. Off-topic, I think if you post English on a Chinese forumn it won't be a big problem, just to show how dominate English is.
