So how much worse do you think it will get if he rest it for the season and play on it in the playoffs?
I am definitely a Rockets fan. And I think are chances of going far in the playoffs go down without having Yao, like I said he is good. I just think he is over rated is all. And look at the teams that are being called Dynasties...San Antonio and Detroit...and their Centers are...the only actual center listed on Detroit's roster is Cheikh Samb and SA starts Oberto at Center...so again like I said I would rather have the best at any other position than center. with that said I would love to have Yao in there and I hope he heals completely and can continue to get better next year.
Um, all the teams that have won in this century have had great centers, except Detroit. It was either Shaq or Duncan in the post for the teams that won in this decade. IF nothing else it proves you need a dominant low post man to win a championship, unless you have a team like Detroit. And don't give me that bullcrap that Duncan is not a centre, just because he's listed as a PF by definition, his game is very much a centres.
I check the GARM every 15min in hope that a thread "Yao is misdiagnosed he will be back" type of thread pops up. Am I the only one? Once Olajuwon was declared out for the season, days later he was back playing. I guess that instance has given me false hope.
how the freak am i supposed to know dude? but the dude is 300lbs and the games are 48 minutes you do the math
Even calling San Antonio a "dynasty" is really stretching it. I really didn't like it when the media and the league suddenly started throwing around the term at the end of last season. 4 titles in 9 years, and being in contention throughout that period, is quite an accomplishment. But it's still failing to win the championship more often than you've won it. It gets really silly when you consider that the Lakers had their own 3-peat dynasty entirely within the Spurs' supposed dynasty. As for the importance of the center position, lots of historical dynasties have had star centers. Shaq's Lakers regularly owned Duncan's Spurs. Duncan himself is really a PF in name only. He's taller than Oberto, and he's the Spurs' primary post up option. Oberto is really just a guy who rolls into the paint occasionally for the easy assisted layup. In recent seasons Duncan has even spent the majority of his minutes playing center, despite nominally starting the game at PF. This season he has played 60% of the Spurs' C minutes and only 6% of their PF minutes (49% and 19% last season).

I spoke to a friend of mine, who is a podiatrist, and he feels Yao could be treated with a bone stimulator for 6-8 weeks and return to basketball. Of course, he hasn't seen the MRI, but there is hope if Yao gets a second opinion.
it seems really weird to me that he's been ruled out for so long when it seems like he could be playing a bit sooner.
Yao Ming will have surgery. I just read on NBA TV bottom line that Yao will have surgery. So now there is not even a 1% chance that he will be back for the playoffs. Damn this really hurts.
man TMac got no luck, first in Orlando where Grant Hill kept getting hurt and now Yao this season. But I really hope they get one more shot at it.
