We all knew this announcement was coming, I was guessing Monday though.

Poor Yao, regardless of what he may say or do, it's gotta kill on the inside.

I hope he takes the medical retirement and enjoys the rest of his life. Not worth doing any more damage to his body. These things linger, and he'll be crippled by arthritis if he keeps going.

At the very least Yao needs to take a few years off from professional basketball and give his body a good rest.

Press conference with Dr. Walter Lowe and GM @dmorey starting now.

Dr Lowe says Yao is done for the year. Would not say it is career-ending.

Morey said Yao is still in the Rockets' plans, DEPENDING ON PROGNOSIS.

Don't have twitter access to quote it.

I believe it's because Clanton retired last season...or stepped down, something like that. And before someone claims they forced him to step down due tot he injuries, i believe it was confirmed he had already planned out the move some time ago.

any word on how they think the new fracture occurred? I'm assuming they still believe it was during rehab, but do they have an idea of when?
